2021 Everlane Impact Report

Fashion is a dirty business. Our ambition is to leave the industry cleaner than
we found it.

A Year In Review

Our intent and our actions have always been informed by progress. We look at an
impact report as a way to measure how much we have left to go rather than a
report card or a gold star. Sure, let’s celebrate the wins (and there are a lot
of them), but let’s also focus on the areas where we can get even better. People
deserve more than empty promises from their brands; they deserve accountability
and meaningful action.

Now is the time to dig even deeper. Together.

1—

Keep Earth Clean

From intensive water use to chemicals in fabric processing and end-of-life
product waste, the fashion industry has an unsustainably large footprint on the
planet. At Everlane, we’re committed to being a leader in the transformation to
regenerative, cooperative, and circular systems that honor the inherent value of
our communities and the environment. This means that at every step along the
production cycle, we’re committed to measuring our impact, setting goals to
improve, and engaging in new ways to protect the planet.

66%

66% of our cotton is now certified organic, and we’re committed to moving all
our cotton to certified organic by 2023.

90%

Eliminated 90% of virgin plastic from our supply chain and are working on the
last 10%.

67%

67% of our raw materials used in 2021 met our preferred standards.1

100%

100% of our polybags are made with recycled LDPE plastic and we have removed all
other sources of plastic packaging.

97%

97% of our apparel materials containing polyester and nylon are now made from
GRS-certified recycled fibers.

13,333

Converted 13,333 acres of conventional farmland to regenerative organic in
partnership with the Rodale Institute.

7kg CO₂e

Designed the Forever Sneaker with the circular economy in mind. The carbon
emissions of this sneaker came out to 7kg CO₂e—by far our lowest impact shoe
yet.

57%

57% of our apparel fabrics by volume meet our safer chemistry standards.2

2—

Keep Earth Cool

The science is clear: humans are emitting far too much carbon into the
atmosphere, destabilizing the Earth's climate. Our goal is to shrink our carbon
footprint (and fast). Along with our partners and suppliers, we’ve identified
specific carbon interventions from our raw materials selection to the
manufacturing and transportation of our products. It will be a challenge for us
to meet these targets, but we know it's the right thing to do.

50%

We pledged our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to
reduce our GHG emissions over 50% by 2030, with a goal of Net-Zero emissions by
2050 (or sooner).

9% reduction of Scope 1-3
32% reduction in per product emissions

2021 Progress
50% reduction

Goal by 2030
Net-zero emissions

Goal by 2050

9%

9% absolute reduction of Scope 1-3 emissions achieved in 2021, compared to our
2019 baseline.

32%

The absolute reduction percentage is equivalent to a 32% reduction in
per-product emissions in 2021, compared to our 2019 baseline.

3—

Do Right By People

People matter. From Day 1, we have committed to conscientious business practices
to honor and uplift all rights for all people. This means from our corporate
employees to every factory worker, we aim to enhance livelihoods so people can
meet their basic needs and full potential. This idea sounds somewhat simplistic,
but given the complexity of the global textiles industry, it is quite an
undertaking. We wholeheartedly believe it is one worth pursuing.

$100k

Launched the Next Collective fellowship program to bring diverse perspectives
together to clean up the fashion industry—$100k in grants were awarded to
entrepreneurs with early-stage ideas.

49%

49% of new hires in our organization identified as BIPOC.

100%

100% of our factories around the globe pay above the legal hourly minimum wage
in their respective countries.

42

Worked with 42 finished goods factories across 9 countries.

57%

57% of our factory partners met our highest standard in social compliance,
representing 67% of our product by volume.3

$1.4m

Since starting our annual Black Friday Fund in 2014, we have donated $1,400,967
to fund social and environmental efforts.

$75k

Donated $75K to the Equal Justice Initiative to support the protection of human
rights, the end of mass incarceration, and to challenge racial and economic
injustice.

$50k

Donated $25k of our Seattle U Village retail store opening-day proceeds to Got
Green Seattle and $25k of our Georgetown store opening-day proceeds to Thrive
DC.

On The Horizon

Progress is a process, and this is just the beginning. Here's what's next for
us:

 * Pursuing our B Corp Certification
 * Increasing our use of recycled and next-gen materials, including ReCashmere,
our exclusive line made from 100% recycled cashmere yarn produced by our
   partner mills in Italy
 * Continuing to map our Tier 1-4 suppliers and disclose our strategic Tier 2-4
partnerships as part of our Transparency Pledge
 * Focusing on living wages in our supply chain, starting with detailed wage
collection and country-level living wage benchmarking
 * Transitioning 100% of our recycled polybags to an FSC-certified paper
   alternative

1 We define preferred materials as being certified recycled, organic,
responsible, or FSC-certified. Percentage is quantified by the volume of
certified materials sourced out of the total amount used.

2 Our safer chemistry standards include bluesign®, Global Organic Textile
Standard (GOTS), and Global Recycled Standard (GRS). Percentage is quantified by
the total volume of safer chemistry-certified apparel fabrics utilized out of
the total volume of fabrics.

3 These are our top-performing facilities based on audit results for social
compliance and adherence to local laws. Any audit-found noncompliance findings
are minor; Everlane may require corrective actions for these facilities, but
they are not always mandatory. Percent of suppliers is based on the total number
of vendors; the percentage of volume is based on the total number of units
produced in 2021.

“Our goal: Pioneer a new wave of fashion, made with lower-impact materials,
safer chemistry, and as little waste as possible. Everlane alone cannot fix the
planet, but we can lead the industry to a cleaner place than we found it.”

Michael Preysman, Everlane Founder

Cleaning up this industry is messy work, but we’re ready for it.
