This debut EP release is a culmination of ideas I have had for over the last 5
years after moving towards producing electronic music as a solo artist. Prior to
this I was writing contemporary classical compositions, studying gamelan,
playing in a punk and improv bands, and listening to way too much metal.
Attempting to amalgamate all these experiences and sound textures is a forever
growing process and one of discipline to stick to developing this one project. I
feel this release demonstrates what I have gathered thus far. Sonically, a large
part of me is drawn to non-western timbres, rhythm and tonality. It’s not really
to consciously infuse my cultural identity into the music but rather an
impression left by the cacophonic soundscape of Taiwan which all became very
hazy after immigrating to New Zealand. And simply I just think they sound cool.
Lots of the percussive sounds in this EP were made through beating on a bunch of
pots and pans. I am really grateful to work with long time friends and amazing
artists Mong Tong and 晟 ⏆ SHENG for the remixes in this EP. Thanks to Yuku for
granting visibility to my debut release.

Materia Hache is a Madrid-based DJ, part of a new generation that still wants to
make politics through the sound, the dancefloor and the mix. Resident and part
of collective OTHERS TO THE FRONT and a regular at underground parties in
Madrid. They define themselves as a House DJ, understanding the genre as
something dynamic and fluid. Their sound mixes old-school and new-school from
120bpm up to 140bpm, constantly trying to capture the heartbeat of the
dancefloor. You will dance to a range from jackin' techno to Underground House,
from the deepest to the most uplifting beats, always in search of the groove and
dance. They understand the DJ Booth/Dancefloor relationship as elements that
communicate and travel together, both part of the same thing. Nobody is more
than anybody on the dancefloor. Through their DJ sets they fight in order to
create a dancefloor that deserves to be danced, giving visibility and voice to
the FLINTA&POC community. Materia Hache troubles and from that troubling makes
politics. It is in a permanent search of collective displacement from an
individual introspection. It is a form of resistance from the dance body for an
individual/collective question/displacement. Materia Hache is that silence that
opens for constant change: it is QUEER, it is TECHNO, it is HOUSE; it is what is
born from fear, distance and uncertainty; it is all that is tried to be kept
invisible while from the underground we answer with rhythms that displace us,
that question us, that turn us into only one matter, at least for a few moments,
