Despite international reports proving that Covid-19 vaccines are effective in
protecting against infection with the Coronavirus and proving the need to
receive them to combat the disease, many misconceptions, and rumors that are
circulating about the vaccine are still going on, including “Covid-19 vaccine
causes paralysis of the body, Covid-19 vaccine causes paralysis of the hand.”

The information circulated is false, and there is no reliable scientific
evidence yet to prove its validity, as the common side effects of vaccines are
mild to moderate. Most of them go away on their own after several days.

Side effects include (fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, diarrhea,
and pain at the injection site), and the chances of any of these side effects
occurring after vaccination vary from one vaccine to another.

We also contacted Dr. (Firas Jabbar Al-Musawi), Director of the Immunization
Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Health, who confirmed that this rumor has no
scientific evidence and falls within the smear campaigns against vaccines.

He explained that all scientific studies prove the success of the Covid-19
vaccine in reducing infections with the disease and that the global openness
that took place after the ban measures came due to the vaccines that limited the
spread of the pandemic.



According to the World Health Organization, since the start of the first mass
vaccination program in early December 2020, hundreds of millions of doses of the
vaccine have been given, and no side effects have been reported that exceed
several days.

The occurrence of side effects after receiving the vaccination means that the
vaccine is working and that the immune system is responding as it should.

Also, pain at the injection site of the vaccine is one of the most common
symptoms, which are classified as mild and transient. This symptom appears in
several vaccines and is not limited to the Covid-19 vaccine. Pain in the arm
after the injection is a reaction from the body, as it considers a needle prick
is an exposure injury. It is like a wound infection, where the body's immune
response begins to work and sends immune cells to the injection site to treat
the tingling, and cold compresses can be used on the injection site to reduce
pain.
