HOW TO HELP UKRAINE


The situation in Ukraine is dire and urgent, which is why we must commit to
helping Ukrainian non-profits and charities conduct relief efforts. One of the
most effective ways to help Ukraine and its citizens is donating to Ukrainian
relief and humanitarian efforts. Right now, the people of Ukraine are facing an
unprecedented attack to their freedom and families.

THE SPANISH AUTHORITIES HAVE ANNOUNCED A NEW POLICY TO PROTECT AND SUPPORT
UKRAINIAN NATIONALS LIVING IN SPAIN WHO HAVE JUST ARRIVED IN THE COUNTRY TO SEEK
ASYLUM

The Spanish authorities have announced a new policy to protect and support
Ukrainian nationals living in Spain who have just arrived in the country to seek
asylum or are about to do so soon. This raises questions about what help awaits
them here, where and how to ask for help. Citizens of Ukraine do not need a
Schengen visa to enter and a three-month stay as tourists in the Schengen area.
A biometric passport is sufficient to enter Spain. In the case of minors, a
birth certificate, a certificate of family or other ties with guardians or
persons accompanying the minor is required.
Information brochures will be distributed at borders and asylum offices and
other reception points in different languages, which will outline the rights of
applicants and explain the procedure for recognising temporary protection. 
Who can apply for Temporary International Protection in Spain?
Ukrainian nationals who come to Spain seeking asylum.
Ukrainian nationals who were in Spain before 24 February 2022 and who cannot now
return to Ukraine.
Third country nationals or stateless persons who have been legally residing in
Ukraine for more than 5 years with a valid residence permit issued in accordance
with Ukrainian legislation and who are unable to return to their country.
Nationals of Ukraine illegally staying in Spain until 24 February 2022 and
unable to return to Ukraine.
Members of their family: spouse and children, whether born in or out of wedlock
or adopted
Other close relatives who were living together with the persons applying for
international protection as part of their family.
Where to apply for Temporary International Protection in Spain?
You can apply for international protection in Spain:
- At the Spanish borders (airport, port or land border): you have to inform the
Spanish National Police or Guardia Civil that you want to request international
protection.
- Within Spain: you have to go in person to one of the asylum offices (Oficina
de Asilo y Refugio, OAR) or stations of the Spanish National Police. 
Barcelona
If you are in Barcelona and you have accommodation and money to support
yourself, you can go straight to the asylum office (OAR) to apply for
international protection.

If you do not currently have the means to support yourself, you can contact the
Servicio de Atención a Inmigrantes, Emigrantes y Refugiados (SAIER), which takes
care of immigrants, emigrants and refugees. There, you will receive legal advice
about applying for international protection and asylum and you will receive
detailed information about social housing and assistance.

The Housing Assistance Commission for Refugees (CEAR) may also be able to help
you with your temporary accommodation.
