WHY WE WALK


JOIN US AS WE WALK FOR THE MORE THAN 2.5 MILLION PEOPLE LIVING WITH CONGENITAL
HEART DISEASE (CHD) ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

Since 1998, the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) has been empowering
and advocating for the 1 in 100 children and adults impacted by CHD. ACHA funds
ACHD-specific research grants and is a leading organization in advocating for
research at the federal level; has accredited 40+ ACHD programs across 25
states; and offers extensive educational tools, including defect-specific
resources, weekly webinars, and a searchable clinic directory.

In 2021, we will host walks in 11 communities to raise money for continued
research, education and outreach for the CHD community. We’re here to empower
adults to take an active role in their cardiac care, to educate parents on the
lifelong specialized care their young child will need in the future, and to
support young adults through the transition to adult CHD care.

We hope you will join us and help us further our impact by supporting ACHA’s

COVID-19 AND WALK FOR 1 IN 100

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of our
participants, volunteers and staff, ACHA has made the decision to transition all
2021 walks to virtual events. While we had hoped and planned to be able to hold
in-person events, the timing and trending of the current COVID spikes and the
highly contagious delta variant led us to the conclusion that now is not the
time for the CHD community to gather. 

While we are disappointed not to gather together in-person at these walks, we
are still going to create an exciting virtual space that will allow us to come
together as a community on the planned walk days, which includes a virtual
opening ceremony and social hour. Please visit each individual walk’s webpage
below for more information.

We very much look forward to being able to get together again soon in these
communities when all of us feel it is safe to do so. While COVID may once again
be changing HOW our events are held, it is not changing WHY they are held. There
has never been a greater need for the resources and opportunities that ACHA
provides, and we genuinely appreciate the support of the CHD community.
