KASHMIR; IT’S ALL ABOUT ISLAM!

Kashmir, the ancient land of Sage Kashyap, the abode of Jalodbhava in the lake
Sati-Sarawhich was drained by the Anant plough on the orders of Lord Vishnu and
Jalodbhava vanquished by Sage Kashyap which made the valley inhabitable. The
Nilamata Purana, the oldest source of history on Kashmir has described the
legend beautifully.

Kashmir called Kasheer in Kashmiri language, however, is in turmoil today,
facing an unprecedented lockdown by the authorities since 05 August 2019 after
the present government under Narendra Modi abrogated the Article 370 which for
long was seen as a hindrance to the complete integration of the State of J&K in
the Union of India. This momentous decision has changed the very dynamics of the
entire South Asian security and strategic paradigm. Kashmir, part of the Great
Game of the earlier decades and later a bone of contention between India and
Pakistan is geographically situated as the eyes and ears of India to the Central
Asia.

However, the present problem is not of the nature of the geo-political or
geo-strategic, it stems from the unique position of the Kashmir Valley being a
Muslim majority region in a Hindu majority nation, India. The fact that Kashmir
Valley and the Northern Areas became entirely Islamic, in the course of
centuries from being a major region of Shaivism and later Buddhism, is the root
cause of the problem. The gradual but definite changes in the character of
Kashmir is the reason why the constant harping on the unfounded fears of a
demographic change being brought about by removal of Article 370.

National Conference was the political arm of the Muslims in Valley against the
rule of Dogra Hindu Kings in Kashmir. The subtle change of name by Sheikh
Abdullah could not have really changed the character of the opposition in
Kashmir. The fact that State of J&K has never had a non Muslim Chief Minister is
testimony to the nature of Kashmir politics. No mainstream or national political
parties could dare to project a Hindu or a Buddhist as Chief Minister of J&K is
further evidence of the communal nature of politics in Valley. The so called
Sufi syncretism is a farce, the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits is the most
horrifying example of the intent of the people who consider even their own
neighours of centuries as enemies. The sole reason for the genocide of Pandits
in Kashmir Valley was their religion, being Hindu in the land of the pure was
unacceptable to the Muslims. A Kaffir cannot choose to live as he wants, he
either converts or he dies and hence the pogrom of 1990.

Kashmir feels the same way as the larger Ummah feels, after all the teachings
are the same. All Masjids, all Maulvis, every Ulema, every Hadith and above all
Quran speaks ill of Kaffirs, declares them heretics, infidels, unbelievers which
leads to the conclusion and daily taught in all seminaries that the above all
are liable to be killed by the Believers. The idea stems from the belief that
there is only One God, that is Allāh, and anyone who does not follow Allāh has
committed a Sin.

Pakistan has most diabolically cultivated entire generations of Kashmiri Muslims
to indoctrinate them with the zeal of a Ghazi, the slayer of infidels. The so
called pro- Azaadi faction was nothing but a Pakistani prop up to distract the
world while it played the dangerous game of radicalisation, in the garb of
assisting the US in its war in Afghanistan, Pakistan created an army of madarsa
educated Taliban or students to carry out the Jihad in Afghanistan. The
objective was multifold, gain strategic depth in Afghanistan with its proxy
Taliban ruling and keeping the pot boiling in Kashmir through its trained cadres
formed into Hizbul, Jamaat, Lashkar. The militant groups are nothing but an
extension of the Pakistani Army and its notorious espionage services, the ISI.
This deadly combination of the Pakistani Army, the ISI and its proxies make up
the feared Deep State in Pakistan, the most powerful establishment within
Pakistan.

Pakistan has gone through extreme radicalisation of its society, no state
instrument or apparatus has the will or the resolve to take on the
Military–Mullah combine in Pakistan. It reflects in the manner the civil society
has been silenced over the years. Both Pakistan Army, its security establishment
and even its political establishment wants Kashmir to be part of Pakistan. This
premise of having Kashmir at any costs has blinded any sane thought from
prevailing in Pakistan. It is this thought combined with the loss of Bangladesh
which has made Pakistan look for solutions to its woes in Kashmir, consequently
India.

If the history of Kashmir was anything, it would have been part of Pakistan but
the Maharaja was keen on keeping Kashmir an independent country. The movement
led by Sheikh Abdullah was about the Rights of Muslims of Kashmir Valley, it had
nothing to do with the people of the State of J&K. The entire manipulation over
Article 370 , the insertion of Article 35A was an exercise for domination of
Muslims in Kashmir. Sheikh Abdullah had played his part well to become the Prime
Minister of Kashmir. The hegemony of a Muslim Rule was established by the very
Constitution which spoke of equality. This continued even after Sheikh lost
favour with Nehru and the Congress. The seeds of conflict were sown by the
enactment of Article 370 and 35A, these were discriminatory in nature as it
differentiated against the citizens of India. The Western Pakistan Refugees were
never granted the Permanent Resident status by the State, these refugees who
were mostly Schedule Caste were never recognised as ones, they could not avail
the employment opportunities which their brethren could in rest of the country.

The entire edifice of Kashmir was built on exclusivity of it being a Muslim
majority State. Article 370 and the Article 35A were the cornerstone of the
Constitutionally mandated domination of Muslim majority and discrimination
against Hindus in the State of J&K. The present militancy, insurgency or more
aptly, the terrorism is nothing but an extension of the Global Jihad. Kashmir
for long has been on the top of the Islamic Agenda as being a hotspot for
liberating the Muslims from the clutches of the Hindu majority India. Almost all
OIC resolutions speak of Kashmir in the same breath as Palestine. This has
encouraged the radicalisation of society in Kashmir which no considers itself as
different from rest of India. The idea of exclusivity is not regional identity
but the fact that Kashmir is almost 100% Muslim especially after the horrific
ethnic cleansing of Pandits in 1990s.

Most parties and political leaders are aware of the fact that Kashmir is an
Islamic Problem, not a civil or political issue which can be addressed by
political and civil measures, but are not ready to accept. This deliberate
incoherence of thought is cultivated as a policy tool by most political parties
who profess to be Secular. This has emboldened the feeling of alienation among
the Kashmiri Muslims, they view themselves as a people who have been forcibly
made part of the Union of India. The recent years have made it crystal clear
that the entire Kashmir movement is nothing but a yearning to establish a
Caliphate or Nizam e Mustafa and to be part of the greater Ummah from Morocco to
Kashmir.

Article 370 and Article 35A were enabling provisions for strengthening the
alienation of Kashmiri Muslims mandated by the Constitution. A grave wrong has
been undone but the work has just begun, it is a long way to peace and
tranquility in the Kashmir Valley. Long before the guns go silent and Kashmir
regains its past glories.

BREACH OF PARLIAMENTARY PRIVILEGE: KAPIL SIBAL AND HIS TRUTH

Ever since BJP under Narendra Modi adopted Sardar Patel as its icon completely
destroying Congress’s claim to the legacy of Patel, more often than not it is
put on the mat by the BJP in its aggressive defence of Sardar Patel. BJP has
very tactfully taken over both Patel and Gandhi with some smart politics and
media management. Narendra Modi has aligned himself with Gandhian ideals and
appropriating very cleverly his ideas of Swach Bharat.

His next step was to encroach upon the legacy of Sardar Patel as the Iron Man of
India, man who achieved the impossible of integrating the 562 odd Princely
States of British Raj into a cohesive entity called India. Narendra Modi as the
Chief Minister of Gujarat had invoked Patel through his espousal of the Sardar
Sarovar Project on Narmada. He constantly invoked Patel and the insults which he
thought were heaped on Patel by the Congress over the years, the Congress’
denial of Bharat Ratna, belittling the contribution of Patel were all
highlighted by Modi in his years as both the Chief Minister of Gujarat and Prime
Minister Of India.

Finally, Congress’ abdication of Patel and BJP’s adoption of Sardar is complete
in today’s environment. Patel stands tall as the tallest in his statue at Sardar
Sarovar is testimony of Modi’s faith in Patel as Unifier and he makes it a point
to rub it in every time there is an occasion to do so. In light of the
discussion on Reorganisation of State Jammu and Kashmir Bill, 2019, brought
forth the ambiguity of Congress and its inability to form a coherent counter to
repeated assertions of BJP that Nehru was behind the promulgation of Articles
370 and 35A.

And, the erudite but not so honest in his articulations, Kapil Sibal made the
Cardinal Sinof putting the blame of Kashmir on Patel by alluding that Sardar
Patel was willing to give away Kashmir in lieu of Junagadh, the insinuation that
Patel wanted Junagadh in his home State of Bombay as part of India and was
willing if Muslim majority Kashmir wanted to merge with Pakistan. This is a
narrative formed by Congress to absolve Nehru and his acolyte Sheikh Abdullah
and their dealings with the Maharaja of Kashmir, Hari Singh.

It is a known fact that Hari Singh was opposed to Abdullah as an arbitrator of
any sorts in Kashmir. The politics of pre Independence Kashmir was the flash
point between the two. Sheikh and his Muslim Conference was fighting against the
rule of Dogra King on the premise that how can a minority Hindu King rule over a
Muslim majority region. Muslim Conference was an Islamist body of politic which
wanted the rights of Muslims of Kashmir. However, Nehru persuaded Sheikh to
change the name of Muslim Conference to National Conference to appear Secular if
not become secular. The subterfuge worked and Sheikh then on became Nehru’s man
in Kashmir. The personal antipathy between Maharaja Hari Singh on one side and
Nehru-Abdullah combine on the other was the sole point of contention which was
acting as a hindrance in making up of mind by Hari Singh.

Sardar Patel was excluded from negotiating on Kashmir by Nehru who appointed N
Gopalaswami Aiyenger as Minister of Kashmir. The argument forwarded by Nehru was
that Kashmir was a Foreign State and as the arbiter Of Foreign Affairs, Nehru
had the Right To Deal with Kashmir and not Sardar Patel, who was looking after
Home. This led the already frayed relationship to rupture. Accession of Junagadh
was indeed an important issue but on 15 August 1947, Nawab of Junagadh had
declared his allegiance to Pakistan which was against the spirit of the basis of
division of States, the majority wanted to be part of the Indian Union while the
Nawab’s declaration was violation of the spirit.

The last straw came with Pakistan accepting the Accession of Junagadh on 13
September 1947, the same day, Patel had accepted the fact that Kashmir has to be
part of India by any means. The argument of Kapil Sibal is pregnant with
insinuations when he states in the Parliament that Patel was ready to give away
Kashmir for Junagadh not clarifying the issues behind the initial position of
Patel as being in consonance with the larger model for the Partition of British
India which was based on contiguous areas of certain majority religion.

Besides, not many would have known that Nizam was in correspondence with
Pakistan over the issue of Independent status of Hyderabad. The position was
exactly the same as in Kashmir where the majority was Muslim but the ruler was
Hindu, in Hyderabad, the majority Hindus wanted to be part of India while Nizam
wanted to be an independent country in middle of the Indian Nation. However, the
day Junagadh was accepted by Jinnah, Sardar Patel had completely changed his
views on the both Kashmir and Hyderabad, it was his firm belief that both
Kashmir and Hyderabad will be part of India ( Ref; Patel, A Life, Rajmohan
Gandhi).

The half truths by Congress is an attempt to buck the blame on the insidious
provision of Art 370 in the Constitution. It is also often said by various
present Congressmen that it was Patel who got the Art 370 passed in the
Parliament.

The fact was that Nehru while embarking on his foreign sojourn had passed a
written note to Patel devolving the responsibility of getting the Art 370 passed
in the Parliament in his absence. His biographers have clearly stated that
Sardar, all his life had followed what Gandhi had ordained for him. This
devolving Of responsibility was a well thought out strategy to get the Article
passed as Nehru himself would not have been able get the requisite support in
the Parliament. Morality still played a big part in politics of those days and
Patel wasn’t the one to ditch anyone, his inability to get out of this
predicament led to the passing of Art 370, much to his dislike but it was his
duty on the day to see the legislation through with which his leader had
entrusted him with.

There can be many interpretations but knowing Sardar and his forthrightness, it
was impossible for him to betray the Trust reposed in him by Nehru, even on a
sly. Both Rajmohan Gandhi and VP Menon have hinted at the same manoeuvre by
Nehru to get this concession through by using Patel ( Ref;Patel, A Life,
Rajmohan Gandhi & Integration Of States, VP Menon)

Patel’s critics have said that he could have refused to be the scapegoat in the
case, to remind them, Patel, did not even protest when Gandhi got the Congress
Working Committee to nominate Jawaharlal Nehru through the backdoor. Even though
not a single State Congress Committees had forwarded the name of Nehru. Sardar
did not protest against the biggest injustice done to him, this was nothing. It
was at best a Half Truth by Kapil Sibal when he insinuated that Patel wanted to
give away Kashmir and at worst a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the
Iron Man Of India without whom we would still be fighting among ourselves.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MR RAJMOHAN GANDHI

What makes Rajmohan Gandhi tick in a manner which defies all reason?

Is there a disconnect between the so-called Liberals and the Reality, or it is
simply a case of permanent discontent with the present dispensation which in
turn makes our Liberals, Malcontents!

It is not a critique of Liberals or Liberalism but very specifically looking at
Rajmohan Gandhi and his criticism of abrogation of Article 370 by the
Parliament. It is prudent to know that the aforementioned Article was removed by
the Parliament and not the BJP, as the ruling party it definitely was the
catalyst, at the forefront of the move to remove this Article and its
implications on the Constitution, the Nation and the State Of J&K.
There is no denying the fact that the BJP ever since its birth as Bhartiya Jan
Sangh under its founder president Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee has made the
removal of Article 370 its primary aim and it has been reflected in its
manifestos ever since.

The government not only outfoxed the Opposition in both the Rajya Sabha, where
it is short of a majority, and Lok Sabha but also in the political and social
debate that followed the momentous decision.

The overwhelming support for the abrogation of Article 370 is indicative of the
Mood of the Nation, most of the Opposition went with the government realising
that it is what the People want. Many a Congress leader supported the
government. This has riled a class of people in this country who cannot accept
the fact that the country has changed, according to this Class, it has changed
for the Worse. That is their opinion and they are entitled to their opinion.
But, does this change anything on the ground? Emphatically- No!

It is to this class that Rajmohan Gandhi belongs, the perennial disenchanted,
finding faults in anything and everything which the present government does.
And, on 19 August he comes up with an article in the Indian Express, “ Where
there is no Free Will “ with regard to the abrogation of Article 370.

How is Free Will defined in a democracy?

Will of the People obtained without force, fear and allures are supposedly a
Free Will. You can add many other attributes but this suffices as a basic
definition. I am no eclectic thinker nor a political philosopher and this
premise hold good for most, Rajmohan Gandhi not included. He quotes Abbe Dubois,
a French Missionary, who says that the People Of Kannada, Tamil Nadu & Kerala ”
‘cherish and respect’ the new rule of the British who defeated Tipu Sultan but
‘hate and despise’ their new rulers from the bottom of their hearts “!

As a Frenchman Abbey Dubois must have found it hard to put words in English and
maybe that is the reason we are confused and so is Rajmohan Gandhi. People
cherished and respected the British but hated and despised them at the same
moment is comical. The reason given is that the people are simultaneously in
this state of emotions because they were not asked by the British if they really
wanted this new administrative machinery which they cherished and respected…

If readers make any sense out of this please elucidate. This analogy is
presented in the defence of his criticism of the abrogation of Article 370 in
this article in the Indian Express. Rajmohan Gandhi even assumes that by 2024
J&K may become a much better State in all parameters but the fact that the
People were not asked whether they wanted a complete integration with the rest
of the country will always haunt the country. To turn this analogy on its head…

What has been the most Fundamental Question which rose at the time of Partition
of India, especially in the aftermath of the violence which followed the
declaration of Partition, since the division of India was itself based on
Religion?

The character of the future State which will follow Independence bloodied by the
horrendous bloodbaths on both sides of the Radcliffe Line. Precisely.

This perhaps was the most important issue to have arisen after India gained
Freedom, it never Won Freedom. But, did our so-called Founding Fathers ever put
this Question in the public domain? No.

This constitutes the illogicality of the argument of Rajmohan Gandhi when he
talks of ‘Consent’ of the people. Mr Rajmohan Gandhi, when the destiny of the
new Nation was being decided it was held to ransom by the delegates to the
Constituent Assembly, where only one party, ie., Congress held sway and it sat
upon every decision which would come back to haunt us for the next many years.
If, Consent or the Free Will was such an important part of a decision making by
the Nation, then what prevented the then government and the Prime Minister,
Jawaharlal Nehru to hold a Referendum on the Question of Character of the State
as to whether India would be a Theological Hindu Rashtra or the Secular
Republic?

No consent or free will of people was ascertained by the power-hungry Congress
or its Prime Minister. They substituted the Will of the People by forcing the
Westminster model complete with the alien Western concept of Secularism. Has
anyone ever heard or read Rajmohan Gandhi debating the manner in which
Secularism was made a Fundamental part of our Constitution?

Mr Gandhi has problems with the manner in which Article 370 was abrogated, but
it will be prudent to ask him, does Free Will or Consent specifically means the
Consent of the People of Kashmir Valley or he means the Will of the People of
the State Of Jammu and Kashmir?

Both these are as different as Chalk and Cheese, Kashmir Valley is a
geographical area which harbours the grandiose illusion of being different, of
establishing a Caliphate or a Nizam I Mustafa, while their counterparts in Jammu
and Ladakh want a complete integration with mainland India. Not just Jammu and
Ladakh, the non-Sunni Muslim population, the Gujjars, Shias of Kashmir Valley do
not want to be part of the machinations of the Kashmiri Sunnis.

Accordingly, Mr Rajmohan Gandhi, the majority population of the State of J&K
have consented to the move of the Government of India and Narendra Modi to
remove the oldest festering wound of the Partition. Let me add with a caveat,
the People of the Northern Areas or the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir aren’t really
enamoured of Pakistan. If you add the population of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir,
the overwhelming sentiment is in favour of abrogation of Article 370.

Your analogy about the people of Kannada, Kerala about Tipu and British is as
absurd as it can get. Mr Gandhi, you must re-read your analogy without your
inherent biases, it will look as incongruous to you as it seems to others.

The incongruity of your argument becomes all the more farcical when the Nation’s
Will is reflected in the majority of elected representatives voting
overwhelmingly in favour of Abrogation. The numbers are 370 in LokSabha and 125
in RajyaSabha. Interestingly, NDA doesn’t have a majority in RajyaSabha.

Sir, liberalism is not living in denial but acceptance of reality which
manifests itself in the Will of the People.

WHEN THE OUTRAGE DIES DOWN !

When the outrage over the Paris killings douses itself in guilt and gloom. It is
time to coldly review the entire terror mechanism at play in the world. The
present danger is represented by IS, earlier it was Al Qaeda, even earlier the
Palestinian groups.
The Taliban, Lashkar, TTP, and numerous other groups at one time or the other
were on the payrolls of Pakistan, proxy US and still are in cahoots with the
Deep State in Pakistan.
The Afghan war, the Iranian Revolution, were precursors to the terror in the
world other than the little groups of Palestine. And surprisingly, all crisis
are fruits of the US medalling in the internal affairs of these countries.
The Iraq crisis, the Syrian detent, subsequently rise of IS, the Al Qaeda all
have their origins in the US intervention in Middle East, ably supported by its
Western allies.
The Afghan war led to radicalisation of the entire muslim world, with the
regressive regime of Saudis as the biggest financers of global jihad. The
Iranian revolution further pushed US into Saudi embrace to contain Iran giving
rise to sectarian rivalry in the muslim world.
US has its fingers in all the stinking pies from Afghanistan to Libya, and has
effectively raised an entire generation of radicalised muslims.
The siege mentality has been heightened thanks to US’ disastrous intervention in
Iraq and Afghanistan. Iraq is doomed to nurse its wounds for decades, it may
even fragment into 3 broad divisions, the Sunnis, the Shias and the Kurds.
The fall of Saddam led to a vacuum which the new regime propped up by the US
failed to fill up and results are for all to see… the IS. The scourge of the
world and the claimant to the throne of international jihadi terrorism.
The cauldron in Syria is handiwork of the same destabilizing forces of West
trying to install a new order destroying the balance of power. It is question of
lesser evil and Al Assad is right now the lesser evil. But US compulsions, here
France is the guilty party in Syria, forced to arm the so called moderate rebels
and in the process destroyed the Assad authority leading to lightening advance
of the Daesh or IS.
The fight against terrorism cannot be selective, nor can there be sides to
choose among the moderates and the extremists, it cannot be subservient to petty
gains in a larger game. US cannot run with the hares and hunt with the hounds.

BAN ON SATANIC VERSES, A WRONG !

Chetty Chid Said, banning of Salman Rushdie’ book ‘Satanic Verses’ was wrong !

Great, we thought it was a deliberate decision taken with  full consciousness in
interest of the nation by then PM Rajiv Gandhi after thorough consultation to
avoid hurting religious feelings and law and order problems.

Chetty Chid is the smoothest operator unlike the foul mouthed Mani Shankar
Aiyer, generally considered suave and nuanced in putting forth the viewpoint.
But Chidambaram has woken up 28 yrs too late to realise that it was a “wrong”.
Does this anything to have with the bashing the Congress has received at the
social media platforms ?

I’m sure this is not something Congress repents when it has consistently denied
the Emergency and the Sikh killings in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi
assassination. This is just a pretence to deflect the bad press and the
criticism directed against the Congress spokespersons on TV and press
conferences on its dismal record of tolerating dissent and criticism.

Salman Rushdie has asked, how many years to correct mistake ? I think the onus
of correcting the mistake lies upon Modi government, after all it is the BJP
which is facing the slur of intolerance and curbs on freedom of expression and
speech. Modi must make a break from the past and remove the ban on Salman
Rushdie’ “Satanic Verses” as Congress has accepted that the ban was a “mistake”.

But, is this an official party line or Chidambaram is a lone voice ?

Maybe, maybe not. So the government must come out with the proposal to remove
the ban and see if Congress is serious or it is yet another attempt at
obfuscation and rhetoric ?

AT STAKE IN SHOPIAN !

Indian Express in its editorial dated 8 March has come out saying that the stay
granted by the SC on the Criminal Proceedings against Maj Aditya in which an FIR
was filed by the J&K government is “unnecessary & unfortunate”!

The reasoning behind this is that the Army has refused requests for prosecution
of its men by the J&K police over the years as a matter of policy as the
security forces are governed by the AFSPA or Special Powers Act which gives
immunity from prosecution by States where the Security Forces are operating at
the request of the States who are unable to maintain law & order.

Indian Express is more keen on passing judgment on the past record of MoD & Army
in refusing requests for prosecution rather than approach the entire J&K problem
holistically. It’s well understood that the Law must deem to have run the course
but can be blind to the conditions prevalent or can Law be indifferent to the
facts on ground ?

The Shopian incident is not an aberration but a regular pattern being witnessed
in the Valley. The mob gets real ugly with stone pelting endangering the lives
of security forces, anyone who has seen a mob of few hundreds pelting stones
will testify to the fact that it can really terrifying , hundreds of stones
hurled at you in narrow streets of Valley villages can give you sleepless nights
for years to come.

The Security Forces are deployed only after the State law & order machinery has
failed to control the situation and the Army/ Paramilitary has been called to
restore the credibility of the State. The provisions for requisition of Armed
Forces come with a rider in form of AFSPA and with it its overreaching
protective elements. The situation in the Valley is explosive to say the least,
it borders on insurrection aided & abetted by Pakistan. The radicalisation of
youth by the Jihadi Tanzeems, the financial and material support provided by
Pakistan both overtly and covertly in form of its proxies like the Hizb, JeM,
LeT & others vitiates the security environs of J&K.

In this particular instance, a convoy of Army was waylaid in the narrow by lanes
of Shopian by a murderous mob of hundreds pelting stones, the situation was
extremely trying for a young officer whose command was threatened by a mob
chanting Allah hu Akbar and La Ilahi lile la. A JCO, victim of stone pelting was
lying on the ground bleeding from his head, with his weapon and most likely to
be lynched by the mob had to be rescued to save him and his weapon from falling
into terrorists’ hands, Maj Aditya ordered to fire on the murderous mob after
all appeals failed.

In the resultant firing, three persons were killed who were bent upon killing
the JCO and other armed forces personnel. The SC has rightly stayed proceedings
against Maj Aditya as he has all the Rights as enshrined in the Constitution to
save his Life & Lives of Men he commands. Right to Life is supreme injunction of
law and its enforcement in Right to Defend is indelible.

SWAMI AGNIVESH: PERVERSION GALORE !

Swami in his op-ed piece in Indian Express 12 February 2018 has called the
struggle of Hindus for Ram Janmbhoomi as a “perverse ploy” dictated by cynical
political calculation !

He starts off with saying that it is impossible for anyone to ascertain the
birth place of Bhagwan Ram born thousands of years ago. One may agree to the
extent that it’s next to impossible to ascertain the exact place of birth but
can historical evidence be refuted on the authenticity of a Ram Mandir preceding
the Mosque at the site ?

Swami is essentially an agnostic who is non commital on existence of God. He
accuses LK Advani of ‘shrewd unwillingness’ to settle the dispute. By settling
the dispute, Swami means accepting that Ram didn’t exist but the Muslims are
benevolent to agree to partition of the land for construction of a Ram Mandir
adjacent to the Mosque in Ayodhya. The same Mosque which was built on the ruins
of a Ram Mandir by Mir Baqi or Baqi Tashqandi in 1528 or Hijr 932.

Swami says that the Muslim side led by Syed Shahbuddin was ready for a
settlement on Ayodhya. Only that they wanted was a moratorium on further demands
by Hindus on any other place of worship of Hindus. It means the obvious, that
Hindus must forego the claims over Kashi and Mathura.

Agnivesh misleads by quoting Tulsidas the poet author of RamCharit Manas that he
doesn’t mention anything about the Mandir at Janmbhoomi. However, to the
contrary there’s evidence placed on record at Allahabad HC it quotes
RambhadraCharya and Tulsidas’ Doha Sataka which describes the demolition of the
Ram Mandir and building of a mosque at the site.

Besides, various Western writers, travellers have spoken of a RamKot, RamChand
Mandir prominent among them are William Finch, who writing in 1611 speaks of
ruins of Temple and houses. Thomas Herbert in 1634 describes pretty RamChand
Castle.

Jesuit Missionary Joesph Tiefenthaler in 1766-71 speaks of a temple destroyed by
Aurangzeb or Babur. He wrote that Hindus still prayed at the site. Besides, in
1810 Francis Buchanan says that the place was a Temple and not a House where
Hindus prayed.

H R Neville editor of Faizabad District Gazetteer wrote in 1870 that a Temple
was destroyed by Babur and a Mosque was constructed over the ruins of the
Temple. It is known as Babur’s Mosque, he further wrote that the material of the
Mandir was used in building the Mosque and many of the Pillars of the erstwhile
Temple are in fine condition.

So, Swami Ji, where did you deduce the fact that the entire RamJanmbhoomi
Movement was a perverse ploy, a cynical political calculation ?

Swami, being used for you is as an abuse to the great institution of Sadhus &
Sants of Sanatan Dharma !

RAISE THE COST !

India has consistently failed to rein in Pakistan on issue of terrorism over the
last three decades. The lack of political will being the prime reason, others
too have contributed to our failure.

The most important being our inability to influence the enemy’s “expenditure of
effort”, in others words, how to make war more costly to him ?

It is this which is largely responsible for our collective failure over the
decades. Unless, India gives priority to operations that increase the enemy’s
suffering, if we cannot completely destroy the enemy, it’s more profitable to
raise the cost of terror attacks in India.

The creation of B’desh was one such factor, however, after this India shrunk
back from raising the cost or influencing the expenditure of effort of Pakistan.

These have been simmering tensions in Pakistan much more they will like us to
believe, our intelligence agencies had a role till the 90s but subsequently the
role of these agencies was diminished deliberately to give Peace a chance. And
peace has eluded ever since. The Pakistani equation is muddled on ethnic lines,
the Pashtun, the Baloch, the Sindhis, of course our own Mohajirs settled in
Karachi.

But meek foreign policy thinkers and even weaker geo politicians made us
impotent over the years. The nation never developed an independent thinking to
counter our adversaries.

India was scared into submission in 71 itself by larger powers, the US was
physically threatening with its Seventh Fleet, goading China to indulge in sabre
rattling on our N. Eastern borders, while our all weather friend the erstwhile
Soviet Union was merely happy to humiliate US in the Bay of Bengal.

All these powers alongwith the West forced Indian hand on the Western Front and
warned of dire consequences if it tried to consolidate its position on the
Western front, PoK.

India slept on its laurels of 71 for far too long, resulting in Bhutto’s
thousand cuts theory being put into action by Zia ul Haq, which is still
bleeding us and profusely.

Had India carried on with its own depredations in Pakistan in form of subversive
actions in Balochistan, or Karachi, promoting seccession, ethnicity and
corresponding activities. Pakistan would have ceased to be one to trouble India.
But meek political will, ineffective foreign policy, too many Aman ki Asha kinds
destroyed the spirit of aggression needed to deal with a rogue nation.

Even today, the Doves call the shots in MEA, not that Hawks are the answer but
meekness of effort is all too evident in our dealings. And such inspires no
confidence in the World community. War is not the only solution.

Just as War is merely the Continuation of Policy by Other Means, vice versa also
true Policies can make up for War if effective. China is the prime example of
the other half.
