The novel “recalls the humorous and heartfelt short stories of George Saunders,
the metafictional high jinks of Mark Leyner, and films like The Truman Show” (
New York Times). Consigned to bit roles in the background of a procedural cop
show, he dreams of playing Kung Fu Guy, the most respected role that anyone who
looks like him can attain-or so he has always been told.

It tells the story of Willis Wu, who has only ever been cast as the Generic
Asian Man. Winner of the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction, the novel is "a
moving exploration of race and assimilation" ( San Francisco Chronicle), "both
rollicking entertainment and scathing commentary" ( Booklist), and "a parable
for outcasts feeling invisible in this fast-moving world" ( Kirkus Reviews).

Charles Yu’s critically acclaimed second novel Interior Chinatown is “satire at
its best, a shattering and darkly comic send-up of racial stereotyping in
Hollywood…presented, perfectly, in the sharply hewed format of a screenplay” (

By the way, I just love poems in which the body of the poem is a continuation of
the title. The title alone bears the weight of a story, a really rich story,
which the entire poem continues from. Just take a look at that title! There is
everything that draws your attention in it. It is titled “ To the Girl Who Works
at Starbucks, Down the Street from My House on Del Mar Heights Road, I Swear to
God I’m Not a Stalker” Maybe it’s the way it ends or how corny it is, but I love
it. Oh the first! I feel tingles every time I read this one. So, I would be
taking them one after the other. There are five main poems I have selected for
reviews that I personally love so much. This beautiful collection of fifty eight
poems is filled with astounding poetry styles and relatable messages, with
shocking twists, amazing wittiness and a sound use of poetic elements. I must
state that Helium is one of my best poetry books. Earlier this month, I had
taken a review on selected poems in Helium and now I have decided to share some
of them and do reviews on new selections.

She has a younger brother named Albert Jr. Then from her adoptive father,
Albert, she learned a lot of values especially the value of honesty and a strong
work ethic-which pretty much comes out in her writing.

Thus, from her adoptive mom she learned to love language. Valeria, read to her
children’s stories each night and by the time she was in pre-school, she was
already reading chapter books. And she also believes that this talent was
nurtured further by her adoptive parents. Of course, as a natural daughter of a
writer and a poet, she believes that this talent and gift runs through her too.

When asked if her talent for writing was inherent or nurtured, she directly
answers that it’s both. It was reported that by the year 2000, Ellen Hopkins
finally found her biological mother, Toni Chandler who was also a poet and a
writer, just like herself. She conceded that it was definitely a challenge
living with older parents along, of course, with lots of wonderful benefits. She
is born on Maand her adoptive parents were already old, with her mom 42 years
old and her dad at 72 years old. Early LifeĮllen Hopkins is a self-confessed
adopted child of Valeria and Albert Wagner. She is a favorite author for both
young adult and the teenage readers. She is well known for her books entitled
Crank, Burned, Impulse and several others. Ellen Louise Hopkins is a New York
Times Bestselling author.

surprised by how much the man simply wanted to explore ideas.Ī final background

says. Ogura already had a storied career before he came to Ghost in the Shell,

they were hoping to get people to do drawing, and I saw ‘anime’, so I gave them
a call. “When I was young, it wasn’t like there were a lot of art careers to be

THE CASE AGAINST EMPATHY

This may be to blame for our lack of progress in finding practical solutions and
effective policies to alleviate poverty, injustice, violence, and similar
issues, despite our desperate desire to address them.

Our culture, however, holds empathy in much higher esteem than reason. The
ability to reason is what sets humanity apart from the animal kingdom, and we
must use it to figure out how we can do the most good for the most people.
Though empathy is not inherently detrimental to our decision-making process,
more often than not it skews and distorts our reasoning to the point where we
would make better decisions without it when trying to do good and act on our
care for others.

Well-meaning efforts can often do more damage than good when a person does not
objectively consider the consequences of his or her charity.
