And. Getting rid of the P5 at the Security Council would be a good first start. It might have made sense when only those five had nukes 70 years ago, but not any more I think. 1 Reply 14Recommend KaliDava Carmeninvermont Feb 21, 2024 at 06:33:01 PM Assuming the Russian invasion of Ukraine was, given the context. 0 Replies 0Recommend bryyce avoicefromeurope Feb 20, 2024 at 11:49:44 PM Why wait? 1 Reply 4Recommend avoicefromeurope bryyce Feb 21, 2024 at 12:04:07 AM Because this new power balance must be fought out first so that the new power structure looks completely normal to everybody. Just like the setup of the UN looked completely normal after WW2. 0 Replies 13Recommend Maohsama avoicefromeurope Feb 21, 2024 at 05:20:13 AM The next international body needs to be a Democracies Only Club. And before anyone starts whining about "denying x-nationality a seat at the table" News Flash - North Koreans, Iranians, etc. don't have a seat at the UN right now either - only their oppressors do. 1 Reply 6Recommend KaliDava Maohsama Feb 21, 2024 at 06:42:06 PM I object to the word "oppressors" here. We're not occupying or at war with these countries. Financial Sanctions are weak sauce. "Opponents" would be more appropriate, yet still not accurate, as China, Russia, Turkey, and Hungary are all perfectly willing to work with Iran, North Korea, and some other countries that are under UN Sanctions, while being members of the UN themselves. 0 Replies 0Recommend healejd Feb 20, 2024 at 11:12:49 PM Excellent news. Justice. 0 Replies 16Recommend bridalor Feb 20, 2024 at 11:52:40 PM If they can kick out Russia, the should do the same to the USA. We have become inveterate warmongers (or maybe we just returned to that state). For most of our history we have been involved in one war or another-against various Native American tribes, so we could steal their land-against Mexico, Spain, England. During the Cold War we got involved in the internal affairs of various African nations, to say nothing of our meddling in Central and South American countries. We are now reaping the harvest of that interference with the numbers of migrants from those countries. We like to think of ourselves as a ‘peaceful nation’, but our history belies that. And if we have enough ‘useful idiots’ in this country, we will elect Putin Lite and become Russia. We seem to have turned over our mideast policy to Israel and will pay dearly for that too. I am sorely disappointed in Pres. Biden. 6 Replies 3Recommend Leefeller Guy bridalor Feb 21, 2024 at 12:28:48 AM Hmm, interesting accounting especially US history, which seems accurate? As a Vietnam Veteran, I know we should never have been there, not only for the Vietnamese peoples sake, but for our troops who got killed, and those that lived, doused with Agent Orange. 2 Replies 11Recommend KGB hates US Leefeller Guy Feb 21, 2024 at 02:19:19 AM My friend is still having new problems related to 1966, and1967 as a LURP in the Jungle. His unit was sprayed with Agent Orange. 3 Replies 9Recommend Leefeller Guy KGB hates US Feb 21, 2024 at 04:33:35 PM Yes, we where sprayed several time during my tour, resulting in I contacted cancer and hyperthyroid from Agent Orange. I would not still be alive not for the VA? The Vietnamese people must be dealing with this big time? 0 Replies 3Recommend Pogoatty KGB hates US Feb 21, 2024 at 05:03:55 PM LURP? I think you mean LRRP (Long Range Recon Patrol). Hubby wasn’t a LRRP but an RTO and he is now having new issues with Agent Orange. 0 Replies 1Recommend wesmorgan1 KGB hates US Feb 21, 2024 at 06:45:08 PM We used so much of that herbicide garbage that the VA now assumes that anyone who served in Vietnam 1962-1975 was exposed: > For the purposes of VA compensation benefits, Veterans who served anywhere in > Vietnam between January 9, 1962 and May 7, 1975 are presumed to have been > exposed to herbicides, as specified in the Agent Orange Act of 1991. > > These Veterans do not need to show that they were exposed to Agent Orange or > other herbicides in order to get disability compensation for diseases related > to Agent Orange exposure. Oh, and that list of “diseases related to Agent Orange exposure” has grown longer in recent years; if you know anyone who was in Vietnam 1962-1975, review the current list with them (or do so on their behalf); they may qualify for compensation. 0 Replies 0Recommend MarcKyle64 Leefeller Guy Feb 21, 2024 at 06:34:58 AM One of my friends in school was Vietnamese. He contracted massive cancer which started in his chest and spread quickly. Minh died before he was 21. I’ve always felt he was a victim of AO. 1 Reply 5Recommend Leefeller Guy MarcKyle64 Feb 21, 2024 at 04:35:04 PM Yes, it was chemical war fair against anyone on the ground, this is US. 0 Replies 0Recommend jayden bridalor Feb 21, 2024 at 12:48:57 AM By that logic few nations would be worthy. Don’t forget, Great Britain, France, and Spain all have a history of colonialism. Italy was an axis power during WWII. Are civil wars disqualifying too? Because there’s a long list of countries that have gone down that road. In one paragraph you complain about our past foreign policy then turn around and complain about our current foreign policy. Which is it, do we meddle or not? Or only meddle when it suits YOU? I am not disappointed in Biden at all; he’s putting conditions on US aid to Israel and his domestic record is one for the history books. 3 Replies 32Recommend KGB hates US jayden Feb 21, 2024 at 02:24:50 AM Exactly, being the Policeman of the World is a real two edged sword. It takes a little thought to realize what is happening Internationally. Plus the realization that no country always gets it right. The USA might overreact sometimes, but others snore right through disasters. 0 Replies 11Recommend FarWestGirl jayden Feb 21, 2024 at 08:41:44 AM Well, I don’t support a lot of what’s gone into the handling of Gaza & Israel, we have a lot of leverage there that we haven’t used. And we should have. But not only is Biden aces in pretty much every other way, he’s orders of magnitude better than any current alternatives. I can’t think of anyone with deeper institutional knowledge and experience than Joe Biden, and the complexity of the world situation right now requires someone with all the skills and standing relationships that he has. Zelenskyy is who Ukraine needed in this moment, Biden is who we need. 0 Replies 8Recommend PissedGrunty jayden Feb 21, 2024 at 04:38:50 PM > Which is it, do we meddle or not? If we're going with previously having used them, you're going to need to boot not just Russia and America but most of Europe because of the use of chemical weapons in WW1 and 2. 0 Replies 0Recommend Alexey Vlasenko Feb 21, 2024 at 01:07:04 AM Wonderful! UN Security Council next, I hope? 1 Reply 19Recommend Irontortoise author Alexey Vlasenko Feb 21, 2024 at 01:38:38 AM Agreed! It’s long past time that Russia was kicked off every international organization it has a voice on. Hopefully the new Sanctions package Biden will announce on Friday in response to Navalny’s murder will finally be aimed at seriously disrupting the entire Russian economy and their ability to sustain their war in Ukraine. 1 Reply 22Recommend Alexey Vlasenko Irontortoise author Feb 21, 2024 at 01:43:21 AM Yes! And the reason that Russia is in pretty much every international organization is just that it happened to inherit those positions from the Soviet Union. Well, guess what? Ukraine has just as much a right to the old Soviet seats as Russia does. Why not do a simple swap, from one to the other? 3 Replies 26Recommend KGB hates US Alexey Vlasenko Feb 21, 2024 at 02:27:33 AM That would be brilliant! Give Russia’s seat to Ukraine, and send Russia to the corner, with a Dunce Cap. 0 Replies 15Recommend Pogoatty Alexey Vlasenko Feb 21, 2024 at 05:08:32 PM How about we throw in a few other of the former USSR countries? Forget Orban or Lukashenko, but Estonia. Latvia and Moldova are looking pretty good for a few seats. 0 Replies 2Recommend KaliDava Alexey Vlasenko Feb 21, 2024 at 06:49:57 PM Interesting. Split up USSRs previous seats amongst the former Soviet Occupied States? 0 Replies 1Recommend sandybeachfun Feb 21, 2024 at 02:40:53 AM Out casting Russia should have happened shortly after they attack Ukraine!!!! This is great news and let’s keep going this will certainly help cripple Russia! 0 Replies 14Recommend ChocolateBob Feb 21, 2024 at 03:36:24 AM They need substantial changes to their governance/rules. No country that has instigated a war (e.g., Russia invading Ukraine) should be allowed to be head of the UN Security Council. If it is a countries ‘turn’ to be head then they have to be a-political wrt ‘at war’ with any other country in order to take that seat/presidency. A country that has already become the head of the Security Council that after becoming head instigates or is involved in a war should be immediately tossed out from the leadership and the next country that was in-line for the position that is not at war with anyone should then be appointed to the seat. As has been reported …. at BBC.com …. 1 April 2023 ………. Russia has taken the presidency of the UN Security Council despite Ukraine urging members to block the move. Each of the council's 15 members takes up the presidency for a month, on a rotating pattern. The last time Russia had the presidency, February 2022, it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A country led by an accused war criminal is now in charge of the United Nations Security Council. Hard as it is to believe, it’s Russia’s turn to assume presidency of the powerful body – which is charged with maintaining global peace and security. It is ridiculous that Russia became head of the Security Council while having invaded Ukraine and then having a veto over any and all council motions regarding that or any other issue regarding global peace and security and war. 1 Reply 12Recommend KaliDava ChocolateBob Feb 21, 2024 at 06:57:56 PM Any victim or against other Members of the UN only? Would USA have been disqualified if we got the rotation during Afghanistan or Iraq wars, because I would argue we instigated those wars (the attacks we were retaliating against were not official actions of those countries)? 0 Replies 0Recommend wonder6789 Feb 21, 2024 at 03:47:59 AM > Now if we can just get the UN General Assembly to strip the Russian Federation > of its Permanent Seat on the Security Council It’s mind boggling that they are still a part of it. 0 Replies 14Recommend CookyMonzta Feb 21, 2024 at 05:05:54 AM No surprise, now that novichok is the suspected murder weapon on Navalny, the chemical they tried (and failed) to kill him with before; and that is why the prison won't release his body. They want that stuff to wear off in his body, and his wife and his mother know it. 1 Reply 6Recommend Pogoatty CookyMonzta Feb 21, 2024 at 05:15:35 PM Except the only way to discharge novichok from the body is through urine, sweat or feces. Dead bodies don’t produce that, so the novichok will remain in the body. Novichok remains in body after death 1 Reply 1Recommend CookyMonzta Pogoatty Feb 22, 2024 at 03:43:58 AM I didn't know that. But who's to say that prison officials and medical examiners (who answer to Putin) won't try to flush the novichok out of his body before turning his body over to his wife… ...or worse; cremating the body without her permission or his mother's? By the way, that will not do any good. If you ever watched Forensic Files, you probably know that a medical examiner was able to find traces of arsenic in a murder victim's ashes. If Putin & Co. have Navalny's body cremated without his wife's approval, and they make the mistake of giving her his ashes, she should take the ashes to a lab outside Russia and have it examined for any poisonous substances. 0 Replies 0Recommend necturus Feb 21, 2024 at 12:06:52 PM Russia should be booted off the UN Security Council. The original five permanent members were the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the Soviet Union, and the Republic (not People’s Republic) of China. The Soviet Union was a UN charter member, as were two of its constituent republics: Ukraine and Belarus. But the Russian federation, another Soviet republic, was not a UN member. How then does it merit a permanent seat on the Security Council? 0 Replies 1Recommend normal family Feb 21, 2024 at 02:16:47 PM The General Assembly cannot kick the Russian Federation off of the Security Council. Its status as a Permanent Member is enshrined in the UN Charter, which is a treaty that can only itself be amended by 2/3rds of UN Members States, including all 5 Permanent Members of the Security Council. The reason that attempts at reform of the Security Council have proven impossible in the past is that all the P5 Members have to agree on relinquishing at least a degree of their privileged powers. It was a flaw in the original design of the UN Charter, which was still on balance a great achievement given the political realities in the aftermath of WWII. 0 Replies 0Recommend Gemina13 Feb 22, 2024 at 03:28:31 AM Slava Ukraini! 0 Replies 0Recommend by Taboolaby Taboola Sponsored LinksSponsored Links Promoted LinksPromoted Links FROM THE WEB Entdecken Sie stressfreies Factoring [Jetzt prüfen]ZA Zahnärztliche Abrechnungsgesellschaft Hier klicken Brauchst du ein Auto, hast aber kein Geld?
