   My US Army veteran hubby is a history buff and knew he had to visit this
   museum. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely lady who explained the
   layout and proceded to take care of our admission. We were directed to a kind
   gentleman who shared more about our journey through the Civil War. We enjoyed
   the artifacts, stories, displays, and a short film, Facing the Elephant. We
   spent 2-3 hours browsing around and learning about how the area was affected
   during the Civil War. We visited the gift shop where they have many
   interesting items, and all seemed to be fair priced. I highly recommend a
   trip here to learn a bit more history than the textbooks taught.

   Early Morning Hiking
   What a gem! We were in Racine for the weekend and did a quick search of parks
   in the area. This is by far one of the best parks in the state! Saturday
   night they hosted a fun food truck family event right next to the biergarten.
   It was a lot of fun. They had events for kids, and live music. This was the
   perfect spot to enjoy one of the last summer nights. The next morning, we got
   up early and came back again. We had the whole park to ourselves while hiking
   around the property. While the trails within the woods were really magical,
   being so close to the road, it was a bit loud. Walking right along the water
   was really nice too. We saw two herons which was very cool! They have a lot
   of benches and great picnic areas throughout the whole park. The pavilions
   hosted a lot of parties the entire weekend, as well. All in all, it is clear
   they take care of this park really well. We are already planning on coming
   back for a day trip in the near future. If you are in the area, this park is
   definitely worth a stop!

   Majestic lighthouse and Keeper
   I've visited many lighthouses throughout my travels however this visit was
   exceptional. Lighthouse Keeper Ron not only gave us a tour but he stamped and
   personalized the entries in my lighthouse passport. Not only is he a keeper
   but a master ship builder and maritime historian! What a pleasure to have met
   him and learn so much and be invited back for winter time festivities.
   Although it was a cloudy day, the lighthouse and museum are photogenic! What
   an awesome day!

   A lovely light in Kenosha
   A lovely day trip my family and I had from my sister and brother-in-law's
   home in Chicago. We visited on a cloudy day but I love lighthouses and I was
   thrilled to see it. It reminded me of the little red lighthouse back home
   (Jeffrey's Hook) located under the George Washington bridge. The area was not
   crowded in late October.

   An Amusement Park Worth A Visit, Go As Soon As You Can, Don’t Risk It!
   My significant other and I gave this amusement park a chance with a brief
   visit. The parking lot was packed! That was a bad start, but also not
   entirely bad, as that could show that people loved this place.
   
   We went inside and walked around a bit. We went to the Ticket Sales counter
   to purchase our tickets for the Go-Karts and Bumper Cars. We just bought the
   individual tickets, as we weren’t planning on staying too long. The Go-Karts
   tickets were $8.50/Ride each person and the Bumper Cars were $4.00/Ride each
   person.
   
   We proceeded to go outside to hunt down the Go-Kart area. The line ended up
   being really long. It took about 30 minutes, so that was a bummer. There’s
   not much they could do about that, except maybe open an additional track. I’m
   kidding, of course. The Go-Karts were alright. I wasn’t a huge fan, but it
   was worth the try.
   
   After the Go-Karts, we went back inside the building to find the Bumper Cars.
   They weren’t far from the Ticket Sales counter. Our wait for those were fast!
   They were pretty goofy, but were worth the money. Be careful, as you have the
   power to make yourself dizzy!
   
   We looked at the menu at The Eatery. This was a little food joint they had
   inside of the facility. We ended up purchasing a Small Pepsi, a Medium Diet
   Pepsi, Nachos, and Cheese Curds. They gave complimentary jalapeños with the
   Nachos, so that was cool. The Cheese Curds had 1 Sauce Included, so that was
   cool as well. I chose ranch for the Sauce. The prices were friendly here. The
   food didn’t take long at all. Their drinks were great! The Nachos were tasty,
   especially with the jalapeños! The Cheese Curds were awesome. The ranch
   amplified the flavor! I was impressed by their food. It’s nice to not expect
   much and come out more pleased than you planned on being.
   
   The bathroom was pretty clean. For there being a lot of people, the grounds
   were kept up with!
   
   The employees that helped me throughout my time here were pleasant to deal
   with. Everyone had the right attitude for being in the place they are.
   
   Overall, I was impressed for the amount I spent compared to the quality
   received. I’m glad I tried them out!

   This place is so beautiful. There are a lot of parking spaces for free. They
   allow dogs. Nice picnic area. Pop up screen tent allowed. Bbq is allowed as
   long as you bring your own portable grill. There is no public restrooms
   unless you park close to the museum. Some people fish in the area.

   October trip to Kenosha
   Fun brewery in downtown Kenosha, the brewery was close to our hotel and ideal
   for a Saturday lunch. We sampled a flight of beer and there was a nice
   variety. The hazelnut vanilla beer was great! A wide variety of pub food is
   available You place orders and pay at the bar and good is delivered to your
   table. Outside seating is available. Location was clean and staff were
   friendly. Highly recommend

   A wonderful place for Nature and History
   I visited Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary (& Arboretum) one weekday morning
   in August. No charge to enter, but they have a donation box with suggested
   donation of $1 for each person. There was also produce available for sale on
   the honor system at the parking lot. The calmness was welcome. After getting
   acquainted with the Sanctuary from the trail information available at the
   visitor center (it was not open), I went on the Old Indian trail (less than a
   mile long). The trail is mostly shaded except for the meadow at the Historic
   Buildings. The trail tracks beside the Pike Creek, has rolling hills and
   crosses the creek a couple of times. There are other trails intersecting with
   this trail; so one can make the walk as long or short as one likes. The
   collection of the historic buildings (two one-room schools) moved here from
   other places in the area are open for walk-in visits. There is a wigwam along
   the trail which is open to go in.
   
   Hawthorn Hollow Sanctuary is very well maintained by volunteers. It is a
   wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature and local history.
