POSSIBLE MEASLES EXPOSURE 

There is currently a measles outbreak in Minnesota. The outbreak began in May
2024. It is mainly causing sickness in kids who are unvaccinated (have not had
the measles vaccine) in the Twin Cities metro area. However, anyone who is not
up to date on their measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is at risk of
getting measles. 

Measles spreads very easily through the air. People with measles can spread it
before they get symptoms. Measles can be spread across rooms and even to others
who may enter the room after a sick person leaves.  Measles isn't just a little
rash; it can make people feel very sick and be dangerous for babies and young
kids. 

The good news is that the measles vaccine is safe and provides great protection
against measles sickness (93% protection with 1 vaccine shot, 97% protection
with 2 vaccine shots). 

What can I do? 

Check to see if you and your family are protected from measles. 

Whether it’s at your next checkup, your pre-travel visit, or via MyChart
message, ask your healthcare team whether you and your family are protected from
measles.
