   🔦 Revealing Survey - Remote Work Isn’t Going Away — and Executives Know It
   "Summary: Many CEOs are publicly gearing up for yet another return-to-office
   push. Privately, though, executives expect remote work to keep on growing,
   according to a new survey. That makes sense: Employees like it, the
   technology is improving, and — at least for hybrid work — there seems to be
   no loss of productivity. Despite the headlines, executives expect both hybrid
   and fully remote work to keep increasing over the next five years." Read On:
   "Remote work spiked during the pandemic, from about 6% of full workdays in
   the U.S. to more than 50% in the spring of 2020. Since then, it’s steadily
   decreased and since early 2023 has hovered around 28%. Many executives
   believe it’s time to come back to the office: Jamie Dimon, CEO of J.P.
   Morgan, has declared himself a remote-work skeptic; Mark Zuckerberg
   has declared that engineers “get more done” in the office; and Google’s chief
   people officer recently told employees that office attendance would factor
   into performance reviews. Even Zoom’s leadership wants employees back in
   person two days a week. The only problem? Not even senior management expects
   this return-to-office push to work. The Survey of Business Uncertainty is
   jointly run by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of
   Chicago, and Stanford University. It surveys senior executives at roughly 500
   U.S. businesses across industries and regions each month." The most survey,
   from in July 2023, asks: “Looking forward to five years from now, what share
   of your firm’s full-time employees do you expect to be in each category

   What about the Hybrid Firm? Great Article: From Remote Work to Remote Firm:
   Are We Going to Keep Doing This Forever?   "...the way we work — and the way
   our people expect to work — has undergone a fundamental shift. Hybrid and
   remote work arrangements have become the norm, and few seem willing to return
   to the world of five-day office weeks.   In an informal survey, Law.com from
   Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) recently polled attorneys on their
   firms’ hybrid work policies and how they felt about them. Most of the more
   than 350 respondents indicated they would not work at law firms mandating
   more than three days of in-office attendance. Roughly half said three
   required days of attendance would negatively impact their decision to stay at
   a firm.   A September 2022 survey by the American Bar Association (ABA) found
   that 44% of younger lawyers (those practicing for fewer than 10 years) said
   they would leave their current jobs for ones that offered greater remote work
   opportunities. Similar surveys of law firm professional staff indicate a
   strong preference for hybrid or remote work." So...what are the pros and

   Are you - or your company - regretting your RTO strategy? How are you getting
   workers back in the office? "A wave of companies called workers back to the
   office this spring and summer: The Walt Disney Company said four days a
   week, Amazon swung with three (prompting a walkout from corporate workers),
   Meta and Lyft are aiming for September deadlines for many of their employees.
   Others devised new tactics to ensure their return-to-office policies stuck.
   Google, which has asked most workers to be in the office three days a week,
   announced that performance reviews could take into account lengthy
   unexplained absences from the office, and badge records could be reviewed to
   identify those consistent absences, said Ryan Lamont, a company spokesman.
   Google employees will be granted the ability to work remotely only on an
   extremely rare basis. “We want to see Googlers connecting and collaborating
   in person, so we’re limiting remote work to exception only,” Mr. Lamont said.
   These new policies come as business leaders accept that hybrid work is a
   permanent reality, with just over a quarter of full workdays in the country
   now done at home, and offices still at half their prepandemic occupancy.
