style="font-size: 13px; color: rgb(76, 76, 76); font-family: Lato, sans-serif;"> is home to more than 4,400 African American men, women, and children who were hanged, burned alive, shot, drowned, and beaten to death by
white mobs between 1877 and 1950. On a six-acre site atop a rise overlooking Montgomery, the national lynching memorial is a sacred space for truth-telling and reflection about racial terror in America and its legacy.</span>

Join us for the fourth annual Racial Justice Conference, as we return to
Montgomery, Alabama, one of the historic homes of the Civil Rights Movement. The
National Association for Public Defense is proud to host this immersive and
transformative conference, designed to enhance your understanding of racial
justice and your ability to fight for it in your work as a public defender.

The event will take place October 30 - November 2, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Alabama is filled with a rich history of civil rights. The conference includes a
visit to both the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and
Justice on November 1st.
"The visits to the museum & memorial were some of the most transformative
experiences I've ever had!"
The Legacy Museum is located on the site of a former warehouse where Black
people were forced to labor. Compelling visuals and data-rich exhibits provide a
one-of-a-ki?nd opportunity to investigate America's history of racial injustice
and its legacy — to draw dynamic connections across generations of Americans
impacted by the tragic history of racial inequality.
The National Memorial for Peace and Justice is home to more than 4,400 African
American men, women, and children who were hanged, burned alive, shot, drowned,
and beaten to death by white mobs between 1877 and 1950. On a six-acre site atop
a rise overlooking Montgomery, the national lynching memorial is a sacred space
for truth-telling and reflection about racial terror in America and its legacy.

FEATURING A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OF AMERICAN SON
American Son is a play that needs to be seen. - It is a topical and poignant
drama in which a bi-racial couple (a black woman, and her estranged white
husband) must confront their own feelings about race and bias after their son is
detained by local police following a traffic stop. Their disparate histories and
backgrounds inform their assumptions as they try to find out what happened to
their son.
