WELCOME MODERN STEADERS, WE ARE THE LUMNAH’S!!! We are a family of three (I’m Al, my wonderful wife Gina and our beautiful daughter Olivia). Oh yeah, I don’t want to forget about our silly dogs (Pluto & Tanner), our crazy cat (Figaro) and our other Barnyard friends. We love Homesteading and the control it offers us with growing our own food, raising our own animals and of Course the FREEDOM it provides! I was born and raised 20 minutes from Boston, MA. At the age of 17, I was diagnosed with Anxiety. My personal experience with the prescribed medication was NOT POSITIVE! That was about the time I started smoking and that became my CHILL PILL! So fast forward, I married my BEAUTIFUL wife in June of 05. I had always told myself before I have kids I will quit smoking! My father smokes and I did not want that for my kid. So shortly after getting married, I QUIT! My poor WIFE! I was a wreck, I belonged in Mental Institution! I will spare you all the details. My boss at the time talked me into seeing a counselor and got me a phone number. I made an appointment to meet with the counselor. After a couple of appointments, he said to me you need to get on medication for your anxiety. I explained my story and said NO thanks! He said to me I don’t know what to tell you other than to start SMOKING again! That is your CHILL PILL! I LAUGHED to myself. I knew he was right, but I had already COMMITTED to myself I was quitting! I told him NO, I am QUITTING. I continued to see him and during that time he gave me a video series to watch about anxiety. Learning about anxiety at first made it worse but so worth it! I learned about how our FOOD and our LIFESTYLES has a lot to do with anxiety. I found as close to a natural doctor as I could in our rural area. I started learning more and more about our LIFESTYLE and FOOD. How it really matters what we eat. Then I learned even more about our FOOD and how it matters how and what our food eats, how it is grown and cared for, what kind of soil it is grown in, etc. I mean our food becomes the bones of our bones and the flesh of our flesh! Instead of taking medication that masked the issue I wanted to discover how to help heal the body at a deeper level. I didn’t want to trade anxiety for addiction but for healing and wholeness. After learning everything I did I got into gardening that was just the start. I decided to get a few egg layers(12), we got some meat birds(24), 2 Turkeys, and 2 pigs! When I dive into something I go all in. Once I got started I got HOOKED. It started opening my EYES up to SO….. much and how our world is deeply interconnected. I didn’t know it at the time but, that was the BEGINNING for me! I have been “FINDING A BETTER WAY” in all areas of my life ever since. Better ways of how to create a Modern Homestead affordably, and a better way to provide my family with healthy foods, and so….. much MORE! At Lumnah Acres we hope our experiences can help guide you to find YOUR BETTER WAY! We are still LEARNING ourselves. We are not all the way there yet. Nor do I think we will ever be ALL the way there. This is our JOURNEY. Please join us in sharing our journey, let us be a guide to Modern Homesteading, Self-Sufficiency, and FREEDOM for you!
