FINANCE MANAGER REQUIRED

The National Flood Forum (NFF) is the only independent national charity
dedicated to supporting and representing people at risk of flooding.
Established in 2002 by those affected by flooding, we passionately put people at
the heart of flood risk management. Our goal is to empower individuals and
communities to recover from flooding and get the best possible outcomes. We put
people first.  We act as an honest, trustworthy and independent broker on behalf
of flooded people. We work across four key areas: Providing information via our
helpline and website Recovery Services in flooded areas Flood Action Groups
Policy and Advocacy […]

JUNE NEWSLETTER

http://nationalfloodforum.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/June-Newsletter.pdf
In January we launched our manifesto asks to MPs and Peers in Parliament. We
asked parties to put flooded people first in their policies. With one in four
properties in the UK now at risk of flooding and climate change set to make
things worse, tackling flooding has never been more important. The NFF is
demanding a bigger, bolder and more sustainable approach to flood risk
management. As the major parties release their manifestos, flooding does feature
but we need more focus. There is a call from both the Conservative and Labour
parties for more home building and talk […]

FLOODING IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST RISKS FACING THE UK…

Flooding is one of the biggest risks facing the UK. Being flooded impacts
people’s physical and mental health in many ways. In the UK 1 in 4 properties
are at risk of flooding. The NFF supports and empowers people and communities
hit by flooding and those at risk of flooding, helping them to recover from the
trauma flooding brings. With more than 20 years on the ground experience, the
NFF is the only organisation that gives a tailored, targeted response to meet
the particular challenges faced by flooded communities.   We have unparalleled
knowledge of the complex and multi-layered issues […]

NATIONAL FLOOD FORUM’S STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE
REPORT ON THE GOVERNMENT’S FLOOD RISK STRATEGY

The NFF has long called for more to be done to protect and support flooded
people. This Public Accounts Committee report highlights some of the concerns we
have raised, and we welcome the understanding that a vision for success must be
defined, understood and quantified. We have repeatedly raised concerns about
rural and smaller communities who do not meet the current Government funding
criteria. Many of these communities are left to repeatedly flood without any
hope for the future.  We are calling on the Government to address the funding
criteria as a matter of urgency. Government must adopt a strategy […]

PRESS RELEASE: RESPONSE TO THE NAO REPORT ON FCERM SPENDING

The National Flood Forum is deeply disturbed to read the National Audit Office’s
report which looked at the current Environment Agency Flood and Coastal Risk
Management Strategy. The NAO report highlights the number of properties to be
better protected by the FCERM strategy has dropped by 40% in England. This means
that only 200,000 properties will be protected by schemes, rather than the
316,000 forecasted. The report discusses how 500 of 2000 flood protection
schemes have been axed and will now not happen. Tracey Garrett, CEO at the
National Flood Forum, said: “We are very worried about this report. Flooded […]

FLOOD FORUM RESPONDS TO GUARDIAN ARTICLE ABOUT FLOOD WARNINGS

National Flood Forum is extremely concerned about the news that EA flood warning
system is set to change. Taking away the human interpretation from the warning
system will put people’s lives, health and wellbeing at risk. The flooding
incident in January came at a time when some Environment Agency staff were
taking part in industrial action, leaving only the automated warning system in
place for out of hours warnings. The automated messages give advance warning and
without human interpretation for the localised area can give messages which are
not true to the on-ground situation. Preparation for flooding is physically and
[…]

TESTIMONIALS

What people are saying about our charity.

We got in touch with the National Flood Forum and one of their local
representatives came to a meeting and helped us make contact with the various
agencies that we needed to deal with, resulting in our first multi-agency
meeting. They have helped us enormously, and with things that we wouldn’t
otherwise have known about. They have opened our eyes – particularly to the
concept of Slowing the Flow which we weren’t aware of until the National Flood
Forum told us about it. They’ve really helped to organise us into a more
cohesive group.

GEOFF IN DIDDLEBURY

“It’s the most awful thing to be flooded – and it’s not just being flooded, it’s
the threat of flooding. Seeing that water come towards you... you’ve got to get
those sandbags out and you’ve got to get your floodgate up very quickly. It’s
terrifying. That’s why we formed our own flood group to try to tackle some of
the problems. One of our members knew about the National Flood Forum so we asked
if we could be affiliated, and that’s when it really went massive. That’s when
we got the multi-agency meetings and got to know who to talk to and make things
happen. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have known who to contact. The National Flood
Forum is excellent. They got us going. When a community needs support, you can’t
do it on your own - you need experts.”

SUE IN BROMPTON

Being affiliated to the National Flood Forum really helped us to be taken
seriously as a group from the start. It was also very useful to have the updates
about the other groups and initiatives that were happening in other parts of the
country. Keep up the good work.
