With 24 years of experience teaching Public Speaking, Human Communication, and
Professional Development courses in Workplace Communication Skills at Gwinnett
Technical College, Dr. Penny Joyner Waddell has discovered how to set
expectations for a successful course on Day #1 that carries through the
remainder of the semester.

This FREE 30 MINUTE presentation / roundtable discussion:
- identifies the problem with missing this crucial step of covering expectations
on day one.
- provides a solution to setting expectations on the 1st day of class by
incorporating tips and tools which you can begin incorporating immediately.
- examines the positive results of setting expectations.

All registrants and attendees will receive resources that can be utilized in
their own courses! Resources include an addendum to add to an existing syllabus,
student information sheets, sample calendar, lesson plans and PowerPoints for
the first day of class, and more.

About the Presenter

Dr. Penny Joyner Waddell has been teaching public speaking courses and coaching
students and clients to become better communicators for over twenty years. In
2013, she was awarded the National Communication Association, Community College
Educator of the Year Award as a result of her accomplishments. For the past
three years, she has coached SkillUSA speakers to win first place in the United
States for competitions which include extemporaneous, prepared speech, and job
interview skills. She was awarded the Toastmasters Advanced Communicator
Distinction and was also awarded as the Region's Most Valued Member for leading
her collegiate chapter to earn the President's Distinguished Award. Dr. Waddell
is the author of Communication Shark: A Human Communication Guide and Speech
Shark: A Public Speaking Guide published through Kendall Hunt Publishing.

Register for a special virtual professional teach & learn opportunity from
Kendall Hunt and Illustrative Mathematics for grades 6-12 teachers and
administrators. Facilitated by IM-Certified trainers, the focus of the various
sessions include: establishing routines, experiencing the problem-based
learning, curriculum overview for teachers and preparing to teach a unit.

This event will be limited to the first 25 attendees who sign up. After that,
additional sign-ups will be added to a wait list in case any of the initial
25 attendees cannot attend. There is a minimum of 10 registrations per each
grade band to run the event. If the minimum is not met, the event will be
canceled. We will communicate with you if you have been added to the wait list
or if there has been any cancelations.


Dates: May 13-16, 2024
Time: 5:30-7:30 pm CT (each day)
Location: Virtually via Zoom    
Cost: $800 each participant for 8 hours of training. The registration fee is
non-refundable.  
Deadline to Register: April 26, 2024. The form may close early if seats become

REGISTER FOR A SPECIAL VIRTUAL PROFESSIONAL TEACH & LEARN OPPORTUNITY FROM
KENDALL HUNT AND ILLUSTRATIVE MATHEMATICS FOR GRADES K-5 TEACHERS AND
ADMINISTRATORS. FACILITATED BY IM-CERTIFIED TRAINERS, THE FOCUS OF THE VARIOUS

**Part 3 K-2 and 3-5 will run simultaneously from 5:30-7:30 pm CT on May 16th.

In these 3 IM-Certified sessions, teachers will plan for an upcoming section in
their grade level unit. They will understand the overarching learning goals of
the section to create a plan for pacing of the lessons. Teachers will also learn
a replicable process for planning and adjusting components of a lesson to
support students’ understanding of the mathematical ideas.
