John Jacobs Studio, London, was established in 1975 by
John Jacobs (Fellow of the British Association of Paintings
Conservator-Restorers: BAPCR) and joined by his son
Toby Jacobs (BSc in Physics at Imperial College London)
around 1995. Toby Jacobs now runs the Studio with his
partner Sheena Patel (Foundation in Art and Design at Central
St Martins London). Over the last 37 years John Jacobs has developed many unique
and cutting-edge techniques in the conservation-restoration world that have been
further
developed and refined in recent years by Toby Jacobs.
Typically a complete structural restoration of an Oil on Canvas
would be: joining of canvas tears, consolidation of flaking paint, removal of
old lining, our special vacuum surface treatment
to refresh and level the surface and then applying a transparent
lining to support the canvas and hold the damages level.

After the structural work we would then clean the face of the painting, fill any
paint losses, restore paint losses and re-varnish
the painting. We could then discuss framing options and frame
the picture.
