An additional authorisation layer is being added to various services. By means of this authorisation layer, the various parties in the logistics chain digitally pass on the right to pick up a container to each other. In this way, a closed chain is created made up of only authorised parties. To participate in the Secure Chain, we ask existing customers to implement various actions in our services Cargo Controller/Cargo Release Manager and/or Hinterland Container Notification. Are you involved in the release and pick-up process for import containers and not yet a Portbase customer? If so, we ask that you participate in the Secure Chain as soon as possible via the appropriate Portbase service. Together we are making the Port of Rotterdam safer! WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? THE RESULT In order to remain involved in the import container release process, you need to subscribe to Cargo Controller or Cargo Release Manager. Using these services, you can authorise and nominate the next link in the chain. With Cargo Controller, you have real-time insight into track & trace information for the shipment. More information about Cargo Controller More informaton about Cargo Release Manager THE RESULT Hinterland Container Notification is the service you need to subscribe to in order to remain involved in the import container release process. This service allows you to pre notify visits and containers at terminals and depots. More information about Hinterland Container Notification Important! If you are an inland operator and you are part of the import release process, you will also need to subscribe to the service Cargo Controller or Cargo Release Manager. THE RESULT Since you are subscribed to two different services, you will need to do something in both services: HINTERLAND CONTAINER NOTIFICATION Under the 'Shipments' tab in HCN, you will find a list of containers you can pick up or forward to a third party. You can upgrade these containers to a prenotification via the regular process in the 'handling overview'. Read more about becoming part of the Secure Chain via HCN in the Quick Start Guide. To the quick start guide HCN Secure Chain CARGO RELEASE MANAGER You will receive a customer code* from your shipping line. Enter this code in Cargo Release Manager. As soon as you receive the release, you designate the forwarder or inland operator. If you work with a regular forwarder, register them directly in the service. The Secure Chain is a joint initiative by government and business for the physically and digitally secure collection of containers in the Port of Rotterdam. PIN codes will be replaced by a closed release and pick-up process involving only authorised shipping lines, agents, shippers, forwarders and inland operators. The right to pick up a container is passed from the shipping line to the forwarder(s) and ultimately to the relevant road, rail or barge operator. Only an authorised inland operator can prenotify at the terminal and pick up the container there.
