The undiscovered natural side of Quito, Ecuador

It seems incredible that such a wild and remote site could even be associated
with a city, yet Mashpi actually sits within the Metropolitan District of
Quito—the capital of Ecuador. The Lodge, which is only about 60 miles (100
kilometers) northwest of Quito, is perched at an elevation of 3,117 feet (950
meters) above sea level.

The surrounding reserve ranges in altitude from 1,640 to 4,000 feet (500 meters
to 1200 meters) above sea level. This transitional location bears witness to
both tropical and subtropical climates, creating an incomparable crossroads
within nature that’s teeming with a variety of flora and fauna seldom found in
such stunning variety.

ABOUT THE LODGE

WHERE IS MASHPI LODGE LOCATED AND HOW DO I GET THERE?

Mashpi Lodge sits in the heart of a 2,500-hectare (6,177-acre) Reserve that
features breathtaking views of the surrounding jungle and mountains. The most
convenient part? It’s a hideaway located on a high, verdant plateau northwest of
Quito! 

In terms of getting here, daily and regular flights connect Quito with major
cities in South and Central America, North America (via Miami, New York,
Houston, and Atlanta), and Europe (direct from Madrid and Amsterdam). The Lodge
itself is around a three-hour drive from Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International
Airport, and we can happily arrange a transfer for you!

WHAT SETS MASHPI LODGE APART?

Mashpi Lodge is a luxury cocoon in the clouds with the natural world right
outside, making it an ideal place for contemplation and relaxation. As an
all-inclusive expedition, it combines high levels of modern comfort, service,
guided excursions, immersive activities, and cuisine unheard of in a tropical
forest anywhere else. 

HOW MANY NIGHTS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR A STAY AT MASHPI LODGE?

Mashpi Lodge is designed to completely immerse you in the world of the
surrounding forest while serving as a luxurious, comfortable retreat. With a
wide range of private excursions and unique activities, we highly recommend you
stay at least two nights at Mashpi Lodge. Doing so will allow you to see and do
as much as possible! (Please note: To visit Mashpi Lodge, you must book a
one-night stay. Day visits, or day tours, are not offered).

HOW MUCH DOES A STAY AT MASHPI LODGE COST?

We have an assortment of rooms and suites spread out across three floors that
are able to accommodate solo travelers, couples, groups of friends, and/or
families. All rooms are designed with floor-to-ceiling windows that help foster
a connection to the outside world. You can take your pick between ground-level
rooms that offer a look into the incredible forest floor, while the mid- and
higher-level floors offer access to the gorgeous canopy.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO SEE AT MASHPI LODGE?

Mashpi Lodge is a luxury eco-lodge located within the Mashpi Reserve, an area
that spans 3,200 acres and represents a unique blend of cloud forest and
tropical rainforest. Within this lush expanse and overlap of two unique
ecosystems, our Guests can expect to come across countless bird species, as well
as monkeys, ocelots, and a rich array of flora.

WHAT’S THE RAINFOREST WEATHER LIKE AT MASHPI?

The Reserve experiences a humid climate with semi-frequent rainfall that
typically only occurs in the early mornings and late evenings, meaning your
daily excursions most likely won’t be affected. Given its location, the dew
point—which indicates the amount of moisture in the air— is relatively high, but
nowhere near as high as that of Ecuador’s Amazon or coastal regions. When
visiting Mashpi, expect cool, moist conditions with the possibility of rain at
certain times of the day.

The Lodge’s location and microclimate significantly reduce risks of tropical
diseases and unwanted insect encounters. Its modern design ensures guests are

Guests won’t have their comfort compromised. The Lodge’s contemporary design

return to a tranquil sanctuary by night, ensuring the best of both worlds:
thrilling wildlife exposure and unmatched luxury.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK FOR THE MASHPI EXPERIENCE?

For the Mashpi experience, remember that what you’d pack for a city like Quito
won’t necessarily apply here. Prioritize lightweight, quick-drying clothing,
including pants and long-sleeved shirts for trekking, sturdy hiking shoes (Note:
Courtesy rubber boots are provided by the Lodge), a rain jacket, insect
repellent, a hat, sunscreen, and a camera. Personal medications and a small
backpack for daily excursions are also essential.
