DIVE BRIEF:

 * Uber Eats and Grocery Outlet announced Wednesday they have expanded their
partnership, adding delivery service from stores in New Jersey, Maryland and
   Pennsylvania.
 * The e-commerce company also announced this week a partnership with
SpartanNash to bring grocery delivery services to close to 100 company
locations as well as its 2,100 independent retailers as a service.
 * Both partnerships add new reach to Uber Eats’ on-demand and scheduled
delivery service across the U.S. as delivery companies continue to compete
with each other and grocer’s own platforms.

DIVE INSIGHT:

Grocery Outlet now has a total of 386 locations offering online grocery
delivery. In addition to its three newly added states, the companies also offer
delivery from stores in California, Oregon and Washington.

To kick off the expansion, Uber Eats customers are eligible to receive $10 off
their next Grocery Outlet order totaling over $40 at select stores with a promo
code until Nov. 30.

The SpartanNash partnership, which launched Thursday, includes nearly 100
locations including Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets and D&W Fresh Market
branches. This marks Uber Eats’ first time offering grocery delivery services to
the Midwest, according to Christian Freese, the e-commerce company’s head of
grocery and new verticals across the U.S. and Canada.

SpartanNash will also offer Uber Eats delivery as a service to the independent
retailers it distributes groceries to. The company forged a similar two-pronged
partnership with DoorDash back in May.

The on-demand and scheduled delivery services are available through the Uber and
Uber Eats apps for both grocers.

Throughout this year, Uber has continued making strides in expanding its
delivery services. In early May, the company built on its partnership with
Albertsons to offer delivery services to over 2,000 store locations. Uber also
recently refreshed its grocery platform, announcing in late July a new “grocery
experience” feature on its Eats app. The updates allow for orders to be
scheduled regardless if the store is open or not, improved barcode scanning and
better inventory management, among other features.

With these advancements, Uber is trying to stay competitive with delivery
platforms DoorDash and Instacart as they also continue to advance their
operations and services.
