WHO WE ARE



The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, known as DEVCOM, Army
Research Laboratory is the Army’s research laboratory strategically placed under
the Army Futures Command. ARL is the Army’s sole fundamental research laboratory
focused on cutting-edge scientific discovery, technological innovation, and
transition of knowledge products that offer incredible potential to improve the
Army’s chances of surviving and winning any future conflicts.

WHAT WE DO



DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory supports persistent modernization and is focused
on disruptive science and technology for the long term, performing research to
answer the hardest S&T questions for future Army capabilities. This research is
based on eleven foundational research competencies: Biological and Biotechnology
Sciences; Electromagnetic Spectrum Sciences; Energy Sciences, Humans in Complex
Systems; Mechanical Sciences; Military Information Sciences; Network, Cyber, and
Computational Sciences; Photonics, Electronics, and Quantum Sciences; Sciences
of Extreme Materials; Terminal Effects; and Weapons Sciences.
