Phishing Email

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clues

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 1. The email is sent from an [EXTERNAL] email address not used by the SSA but
is asking you to access a file to see security requirements.
 2. The email is vague, but contains just enough information to create a sense
    of urgency.
 3. The link leads to a non SSA website.

STOP. THINK. REPORT.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some useful questions you can ask yourself when determining if a
suspicious email, like the above, should be reported:
 * Why am I receiving this email in my SSA account's inbox?
 * Have I interacted with this entity before? Why would they reach out?
 * Are there possible ulterior motives for this email?

If you are the target of a phishing attempt, use SSA Reporter to report the
incident within 15 minutes of email discovery.  For more information about using
the SSA Reporter, please click here.

If your device does not support SSA Reporter, attach the email (do not forward)
in a new email to ^SOC within 15 minutes of incident discovery.
