3D, BABY FACE, MARK TWAIN, FANTASMIC! FINALE, DISNEYLAND®, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA,

RIGHT.]

 

I MET MY WIFE AT DISNEYLAND - SORT OF. IT WAS A 30'S PARTY AT A MUTUAL FRIEND'S
HOUSE, PROF.JOHNS. THERE WERE MANY CAST MEMBERS THERE. SHE PLAYED SNOW WHITE,
AND I MANAGED THE CHARACTER WAREHOUSE. THIS SHOT CONTAINS MANY OF OUR MUTUAL
FRIENDS, BOTH FACE CHARACTERS, AND CARPETS. THEY ARE LINED UP ALONG THE PORT
SIDE OF THE MARK TWAIN. BUT THERE IS NO PERSON WHOSE FACE FILLS THE FRAME.

I HAVE PLENTY OF SHOTS OF THE MARK TWAIN FINALE OF FANTASMIC!, BOTH MOMENTS
BEFORE AND AFTER THIS ONE WAS TAKEN. INITIALLY I WAS GOING TO DELETE IT, BECAUSE
IT IS SEVERELY FLAWED, BUT AS I WAS ABOUT SHRED IT, MY FAVORITE PHOTO OF MY
WIFE, THE ONE USED FOR HER ALBUM COVER, FELL OFF OF THE WALL. THIS IMAGE IS THE
UNMODIFIED UNION OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT IMAGES CAPTURED BY TWO SEPARATE CAMERAS,
WHOSE SHUTTERS WERE TRIGGERED SIMULTANEOUSLY USING THE INFRA-RED REMOTE.

I HAD ALWAYS AGREED WITH MY WIFE, THAT WHEN WE PASS, WE WOULD MEET AT THE
HAUNTED MANSION. SHE DIED OF BREAST AND LUNG CANCER COMPLICATIONS ON AUGUST 8,
2008, AT ELEVEN TILL ELEVEN, ABOUT THE TIME THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN FROM FOWLER'S
HARBOR, THE SERVICE DOCK FOR THE LARGE SHIPS AT DISNEYLAND.

SHE ALWAYS JOKED THAT WHEN WE MEET IN THE AFTERLIFE, SHE WOULD SAY "I'M READY
FOR MY CLOSE-UP, MR. WIZARD."

 

TECHNICAL DETAIL: MOST "GHOST" IMAGES, AS CAPTURED BY A CAMERA, ARE THE RESULT
OF ADDITIONAL LIGHT ENTERING THE LENS, EITHER AS A REFLECTION OR DOUBLE
EXPOSURE. IN DAYS LONG GONE, PHOTOGRAPHIC EMULSION WAS REQUIRED TO EXPOSE FOR A
VERY LONG TIME IN ORDER TO CAPTURE AN IMAGE, SO THE BLINKING OF AN EYE WOULD
CAUSE A SMEAR OR "GHOST" AS WELL AS SOMEONE WHO WALKED INTO A FIELD OF FRAME
ACCIDENTALLY, STOOD IN ONE SPOT FOR A MOMENT, AND THEN QUICKLY WALKED OFF WOULD
ALSO CAST A SHEER SEE-THROUGH IMAGE. PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN THROUGH GLASS CAN ALSO
CREATE A REAL-TIME "GHOST" OF SEE THROUGH IMAGE SUCH AS THE BALLROOM SCENE OF
THE [NEARBY] HAUNTED MANSION, AN EFFECT KNOWN AS "PEPPER'S GHOST."

AND THE FAMOUS "OOPS, I FORGOT TO ADVANCE THE ROLL!" DOUBLE EXPOSURE CAN ALSO
MAKE IT SEEM THAT THERE ARE TWO SEMI-TRANSPARENT IMAGES GHOSTING EACH OTHER.

NOWADAYS, IN THE ERA OF DIGITAL IMAGERY, DOUBLE EXPOSURE AND ELAPSED TIME ERRORS
ARE ELIMINATED, AND REFLECTION ERRORS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED WHEN USING THE
BACK-LIT VIEW-SCREEN, WHICH MAKES THE REFLECTION STAND OUT PROMINENTLY.

DIGITAL IMAGE MANIPULATION SOFTWARE SUCH AS GIMP AND PHOTOSHOP, HOWEVER, ALLOW A
WIDE VARIETY OF IMAGING TRICKERY. AND THIS IMAGE HAS BEEN THROUGH GIMP! I USED
GIMP TO JOIN THE TWO SIMULTANEOUS SNAPSHOTS FROM SEPARATE CAMERAS ONTO A SINGLE
CANVAS AND THEN CROPPED THE TOP AND BOTTOM TO TRIM A NEAT LINE THERE.

 

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ANALYZE THIS IMAGE WITH MANIPULATION DETECTION SOFTWARE, TO
VERIFY THAT THERE HAS BEEN NONE. THE ONLY REFLECTIONS ARE FROM THE WATER BELOW,
THE EXPOSURE WAS SHORTER THAN THAT OF IMAGES BEFORE AND AFTER, AND DOUBLE
EXPOSURE IS NEITHER EVIDENT NOR POSSIBLE. BOTH CAMERAS PICKED UP SIMILAR
PATTERNS, THE CAMERA ON THE RIGHT [WHICH IS THE IMAGE ON THE LEFT, IN THIS
CROSSEYE STEREOGRAPH] WAS SLIGHTLY OUT OF FOCUS, AND BOTH CAMERAS MOVED THROUGH
AN ARCHING CURVE WHEN THE SHUTTER WAS OPEN.

 

I'M NOT TRYING TO MAKE A CASE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GHOSTS. IF I WAS, IT WOULD BE
TO PASS ALONG HER MESSAGE TO "QUIT SMOKING YESTERDAY."

    OMG! I knew her! I was on the second show that night. I was waveing at
    everyone from the Mark Twain. I thought I saw some unusual lights from the
    McDonalds fry shack, out of the right corner of my eye, lights like a
    thousand orbs, but clusters of greenish-yellow and oranges. In this photo,
    they are all white. Others saw it too, but we all just attributed it to
    camera flash, we get alot of that, and our eyes have lots of tracers by the
    time we get in front of the Haunted Mansion.
    Wasn't she the one studying for her Doctorate in Special Education,
    specializing in Autism? She was cute, a nice round face that didn't need
    make-up for Snow White. And her singing voice was angelic. At first it
    didn't look like her, but when you cross your eyes it really looks like her,
    but all fuzzy. If you look carefully, you can see her body mods, that she is
    wearing her barbell in her right eye, her nostril jewel and she has her
    tongue out, playing with her tongue stud, just like she used to do backstage
    after work, and is that a cigarette in her mouth? Like she just sparked it
    up.
    Is there a place where we can send piles and puddles of pixie-dust, or
    flowers perhaps?

    Who else saw it? Were you wearing a rug? Wow, this is like my reality check
    bounced. I'm not crazy!
    
    I see what you're talking about, I was wondering what was the line out of
    the mouth, but it makes perfect sense, she must have been happy in release,
    having lit that smoke, playing her tongue stud back and forth across her
    upper lip, like she used to.
    
    Yes, she wanted to make the world a better place, and cure autism. Her
    latest research was epigenome effects of mothers drinking from plastic water
    bottles, but it was hard to find samples of mothers of autistic children
    that didn't drink from one during pregnancy.
    
    Many of her organs were donated, and she still left a lovely corpse. She was
    cremated and joined her grandmother in the Pacific Ocean, as she wished.
    It's too late for flowers. She wanted us all to know, in lieu of flowers, to
    make a donation to the Autism Awareness Education Foundation. --Wiz.
    p.s. are you Tiny - from Midnight Insanity? I'm the Denton wedding guest in
    the audience wearing the collapsible opera hat, and tux.

    Yes, I knew her from Midnight Insanity also. No, I don't wear an eyepatch,
    think elbow-sex with Riff.
    Right, you had the Mag-Lite solitare with the lens removed, instead of a bic
    lighter, and genuine Great-Scott! Fabulous Great-Scott toss technique, by
    the way.
    
    I guess it's too late for pixie dust as well.

    Wow, so I got drunk Friday night and sat down to flickr.com — when I noticed
    this image got a lot of hits. Now I don't drink much and since she is gone I
    have the same number of alcohol bottles in the house as before she left. But
    when I did get a buzz on, she used to wink at me, to remind me to behave
    myself.
    
    Then I crossed my eyes to look at this picture, which is a little easier
    when you're drunk, and then my mind played tricks on me. It must have been
    the visual dominance of one eye superseding the other and then losing the
    dominant force, as a fire spinning and lapping at the light. Each image came
    alternately to my attention in strength, giving the appearance of her
    winking reminder.
