Winners of the Prestigious 2023-2024 Rotarian of the Year Award We are thrilled to announce that Anna Hernoud, Christina Usher, and Christie Weston have been honored with the Rotarian of the Year Award for their outstanding service to the goals and objectives of Rotary 14. This award recognizes Club 14 Rotarians who exemplify dedication, commitment, and exceptional contributions to our organization. These three amazing Rotarians truly embody these qualities and more. Their unwavering commitment to helping us through our transitional period this past Rotary year says it all. Together, they have consistently demonstrated remarkable attendance, active participation, and so much work behind the scenes on evenings and weekends in addition to seeing their friendly smiles every Tuesday at our regular meetings. Each of these phenomenal Rotarians juggled multiple leadership roles–whether on the Board of Directors, handling reconciliation of our finances alongside our bookkeeper and Club Treasurer, auditing our membership rosters and updating our new member process, leading our Dictionary Project, serving as cashier and tracking lunches sold, making sure all attendees whether in-person or virtually received attendance credit, and helping onboard our new Club Administrator–providing hours of training and best practices…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. One remarkable aspect of Anna, Christina, and Christie’s contributions is their humility and selflessness. They do so much on a daily basis, but yet few realize how much time they’re putting in 24/7/365 to keep Rotary 14 operating smoothly for all to enjoy. Whenever a last minute need existed, one of these Rotary heroes was always ready to help. It’s time to shine a light on these three beautiful souls with a heart for service. Our Club is better because of you, and I know that I (Jess Kinser) personally am better because of you. From all of us here at Club 14, please know how appreciative we are for your continued dedication, infectious joy, and passion for leaving everything better than you found it. Congratulations! His willingness to pitch in at a moment's notice and help get things done does not go unnoticed. Dr. Michael Eckelkamp joined Rotary 14 in March 2022 and has been deeply ingrained in helping better the Club through volunteerism, financial gifts, and a heart for service that eloquently shows through all of the committees he’s involved in. Michael’s remarkable contributions to the Club include chairing the In-Club Celebrations Committee since 2022, serving in a weekly check-in capacity consistently, helping our tech team, pitching in with Sergeant-at-Arms duties, actively contributing on our Rise.Shine.Give. Committee, reading to youth at Elliott Elementary School and as a City Impact Tutor, delivering dictionaries to fourth graders, welcoming our international students at the International Student Picnic, and showing up to beautify Lincoln roads during Rotary’s Roadside Cleanup. Moreover, Michael has successfully started his Rotary Leadership Institute journey—making Rotary 14 evermore proud. His commitment to service and unwavering dedication to Rotary's values make Dr. Michael Eckelkamp a true exemplar of "Service Above Self," and deserving of this esteemed recognition. Congratulations, Michael! Dr. Patrick Janike Honored with 2024 Miller Math Award Each year since 1992, Rotary 14 proudly presents the Donald W. Miller Math Recognition Award, recognizing outstanding mathematics educators in the Lincoln area. The club endowed this award in honor of former member, past club president (1986–87) and Rotary leader, Donald W. Miller. This year's award recipient is Dr. Patrick Janike with Lincoln Public Schools. Dr. Janike holds a Doctorate of Education in Mathematics, Master of Arts in Secondary Teaching, and Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Janike is a math teacher at Lincoln High School and helps students see how math plays an important role in their everyday lives. During his acceptance speech, Dr. Janike thanked his numerous mentors throughout his education and career. Congratulations, Patrick, and a special thank you to our Rotary 14 Foundation and Miller Math Award Committee. President's Message ERIN DOBESH Welcome to the Lincoln Rotary Club 14 website!
