THE CHEMICAL IMBALANCE IN THE BRAIN The brain of an individual with ADHD functions differently from that of someone without the disorder. In individuals with ADHD, there is a deficiency of these two neurotransmitters, which leads to the characteristic symptoms of the disorder. SYMPTOMS OF ADHD The symptoms of ADHD can vary from person to person, and they may change over time. The disorder is typically diagnosed in childhood, although many individuals do not receive a diagnosis until adulthood. The symptoms of ADHD are divided into two main categories: inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. TREATMENT FOR ADHD While there is no cure for ADHD, there are various treatments available to help manage symptoms. The most common treatment for ADHD is medication, such as stimulants or non-stimulants, which can help to increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. Other treatments include behavioural therapy, which can teach individuals with ADHD strategies to manage their symptoms, and coaching, which can help individuals set and achieve goals.
