Benefits of Lion's Mane Mushroom
Lion's mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) is an edible mushroom native to North
America, Europe, and Asia. Today it is a very popular supplement that is touted
for many health benefits. Here are some of the benefits.

It stimulates brain cell growth.
Our brains include billions of neurons organized in networks. These neurons are
the main workers in all brain functions. Lion's mane mushroom helps by inducing
nerve growth factors (NGF) inside neurons. Nerve growth factors are necessary
for the growth and differentiation of neurons. So, it is no surprise that lion's
mane mushroom can help to grow and regenerate brain cells.

It stimulates nerve regeneration.
Brain cells are not the only type of neurons. Neurons also make up nerve cells.
So, nerve growth factors are also necessary for the growth and maintenance of
nerve cells. This makes lion's mane mushroom beneficial to the entire nervous
system.

It can combat dementia.
Dementia is often age-related and it affects the brain, and one of the most
well-known types of dementia is Alzheimer's disease. The neuron-regenerating
benefits of lion's mane mushroom can help with this problem. There was a study
of its effects on patients with Alzheimer's disease. It showed significant
improvement in the patients who supplemented with 1 gram of lion's mane mushroom
per day for up to 49 weeks. This highlights the benefits of lion's mane
mushrooms in fighting one of the most common degenerative diseases.

It is anti-inflammatory.
Inflammation lies at the root of many health problems. These include arthritis,
asthma, cardiovascular disease, and many others. Lion's mane mushroom is rich in
oligosaccharides which show strong anti-inflammatory properties. This is useful
in treating or preventing many of these conditions. This means that lion's mane
mushroom has the potential to fight many diseases.

It is a potential diabetes treatment.
In careful experiments, lion's mane mushrooms lowered the blood sugar levels of
diabetic rats. Although it is not the same as experiments done with people, it
is promising. If it works in humans, it could help treat or prevent diabetes.

Lion's mane mushroom has many health benefits. Also, many are important in
combating degenerative diseases. But more studies need to be done. Perhaps in
doing more studies, researchers will find even more benefits.
