Our tour guide was a young girl who was very knowledgeable and brought the house to life ( sorry forgotten her name ) . So much to see and the history is incredible . Hard to believe that the owner lives in this mansion . Finished the day with a mint julep very nice indeed .Worth a visit. – Debbie D, TripAdvisor Excellent tour Our tour guide Ruby did an excellent job. She was so knowledgeable and also shared stories that made us laugh. The gardens were amazing and actually were the prettiest we have seen so far. We are on a Mississippi River Boat cruise, and this was one of our stops. There was also a very large gift shop and a great restaurant on the grounds. – Donna A, TripAdvisor Beautiful Grounds We took the guided tour, and our guide (Darren) was not only very knowledgeable, but also quite amicable. He provided lots of information about the house and was able to answer any questions we had about all the items of which we inquired. He even volunteered (without us asking) to take pictures of my daughter and I on the outside deck. The owner has done an excellent job of restoring the house to its former state and we both really enjoyed our visit. After the tour, you are free to roam the beautiful grounds for as long as you wish, and pretty much anywhere you wish. Kind of unusual given that the owner actually lives on the property. Our tour was at 7 pm on a Friday night (The house closes at 8 pm.), and we saw numerous couples dressed very nicely. We thought there was a wedding party on site, but it turns out that the "fine dining" restaurant was open. Cannot comment on the food, but it is apparently pretty popular. – Shane P, TripAdvisor Beautiful Gardens We visited Houmas house this July, took the tour of the house, strolled through the gardens and had lunch at the restaurant. It was very quiet the day we visited - perhaps because it was the middle of the week - so we had the house tour guide, Ruby - all to ourselves. It was an excellent tour through the house, with lots of history and plenty of time to ask questions. The gardens are beautiful and I believe there is lodging onsite also. We had a delicious lunch too. This was the first of the river plantations we visited and was an interesting example of the sugar baron history in the area – Nora F, TripAdvisor Fantastic trip We are still in the middle of our trip but I had to take a moment to review this team. We are currently staying in the deluxe suite on the grounds and it is perfect. We had dinner at Latils last night and not only was the food fantastic but Josh and Phyllis were inviting and provided great service. Breakfast at Dixie Cafe was great.. get the biscuits! Today we toured the informative museum and toured the Mansion with Darrin who was amazing. As we sit here sipping cocktails at Turtles Bar, I cant wait to see what the rest of our trip will bring. The grounds are exquisite and everyone is welcoming. – Brittany R, TripAdvisor Delightful What a lovely afternoon we spent walking around the beautiful gardens then touring the mansion .
