After completing the research for her Ph.D., Dr. Langford began independent
consulting with federal, state and community based arts organizations to develop
program design strategies in response to the need for artistic culturally
relevant community based mental health programs, gangs, violent crime and
illegal drug activity locally and nationally and to provide educational
workshops, trainings and PowerPoint presentations on such topics as strategy
development; community partnership and collaboration building; artistic cultural
competence for police officers; development of community-based safe havens with
after school art classes; and user-friendly evaluation designs.

Presently, Dr. Langford provides gang prevention and recovery therapy to girls
who are separating from gangs. Often, they are in need of: safe shelter,
domestic violence training, job readiness skills, life skills, acculturation,
decision-making skills and appropriate referrals to other family and educational
services.

Seven days after Katrina Dr. Langford had the opportunity to volunteer in
Houston, Texas to provide crisis debriefing counseling. However, the need for
setting up a volunteer team of local doctors who would be willing to provide
free and immediate medical services was most needed. Therefore, Dr. Langford
changed her mission and was able to assist in providing a small but critical
response in the aftermath of the hurricane.

TESTIMONIALS

Dr. Langford helped me identify and work through previously undiagnosed and
untreated PTSD.  She helped me find myself again. I cannot thank her enough!

You helped me figure out my needs, find my way through the maze of
relationships.  And what I learned is helping me organize the wedding and
keeping me sane in the process.  Now your voice is constantly accompanying me in
my daily routine: “did I sleep enough?”, “how long has it been since I talked to
my mom?”, etc. I learned where my limits are and keep it mind when making
decisions.  I learned to understand my past better and how it affects me now,
and much more… Thanks for all of this.  It is so important in a person’s life,
and in mine.  You affected me in a profound way.  Thank you so much!
