(Courtesy of Jon Muir/Placentia Fire & Life Safety) By Caitlin Antonios | cantonios@scng.com | PUBLISHED: May 3, 2022 at 5:59 p.m. | UPDATED: May 3, 2022 at 7:53 p.m. Crews Tuesday knocked down a fire on North Jefferson Street and East Orangethorpe Avenue in a lot behind an industrial warehouse in Placentia, officials said. The fire was reported just before 3 p.m. and the black smoke from the fire could be seen blocks away. “It was pretty impressive,” Placentia Fire and Life Safety Department Battalion Chief Jon Muir said. Initial knockdown was called after 20 minutes, but crews stayed on scene to eliminate any hot spots and complete knockdown was called 40 minutes after the fire was reported. Previous Firefighters look on at the damage after extinguishing all hotspots 40 minutes after receiving reports of the fire. (Courtesy of Jon Muir/Placentia Fire & Life Safety) Expand There was minor structure damage to the concrete industrial warehouse estimated at about $1,000, but there were no injuries reported, Muir said. Some vegetation did catch on fire, but the main fuel for the fire was the debris and trash in the lot where a known homeless encampment is located. Propane cylinders on sight exploded and Metrolink trains running on the tracks nearby were temporarily stopped. The cause of the fire was under investigation, but crews found barbeque equipment at the homeless encampment that could have sparked the fire. Anaheim Fire & Rescue and the Orange and Fullerton fire departments assisted in battling the flames.
