A lightweight, lithe, agile two-seater coupe or convertible, the Vantage was aimed squarely at people who otherwise would have been heading for their nearest Porsche 911 dealership. Fitted with a snarling, growling or purring (you decide) V8 under the bonnet, it was a traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car of the old school. But not quite. While it might be a traditional two-door, two-seat coupé or convertible with the engine up front and the driven wheels at the back, the monocoque bodyshell is cunningly formed from glued together aluminium sections. At the time, this was a fairly radical departure from the norm. The 4.3-litre V8 engine delivered 380bhp and 302lb/ft of torque, enough to see the squat, muscular Aston reach 62mph in 4.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 175mph. THE VEHICLE This car is offered from outside of the European Union. It has been imported under temporary admission customs bond and is therefore subject to Dutch import tax (9%) on top of the winning bid price. Cars less than 30 years old will pay 10% Dutch import tax plus 21% VAT on the hammer. If exporting immediately to another country, then tax/duty will only be paid in that country. The winning bidder will pay €500 customs charge on top of the ‘hammer’ price. The winning bidder will receive a receipt for the final hammer value, as their proof of purchase. This vehicle has been on static display in the Middle East for a number of years and the only history or paperwork available is displayed in the photo gallery. In all cases the papers shown are photocopies unless otherwise stated. We do not have the original paperwork. Unless otherwise stated, we have not tried to start or drive the car and cannot vouch for its mechanical viability or functionality. The car is not registered anywhere. It will require recommissioning prior to road use and is sold ‘as seen’. As CARS Europe BV is the guarantor of all customs duties and taxes for vehicles within Dutch customs bond, the car cannot be released until full payment received. In common with many vehicles from the vendor’s collection, this 2006 LHD manual Aston Martin V8 Vantage does not come with any history or provenance beyond whatever photocopies are shown in the documents section. That said, since it first rolled of the production line some 17 years ago, this car has covered just 648 kilometres, so it’s probably yet to get through its second tank of fuel and has barely done more than warm up the engine and take the showroom shine off its tyres. The car takes power to the dashboard and the engine turns over but, as we haven’t started or driven it, our appraisal is entirely based on its cosmetic appearance. Talking of which, we’ve had some internal debate over exactly what shade of grey/silver/mauve/bronze, etc, this car lays claim to. We think it’s probably Oyster Silver but, frankly, your guess is as good as ours. Aston paint code aficionados will no doubt put us right on this one. We believe it entered the vendor’s collection in 2013. ON THE OUTSIDE As you would expect and hope of a car that’s still got some way to go before it clocks up 1000km, it’s pretty much immaculate in most relevant senses of the word. The bodywork is excellent all round, with all panels, panel gaps and shut lines consistent and even. There are no dinks, dents or creases of any significance and the paintwork, too, is in very good condition. The lights, lenses and wheels are also impressive, as are the badging, trim and other exterior fixtures and fittings. The only minor exception to all this good news is the fact that the protective film covering the front wings, the nose of the car and the wheel arches has discoloured to some extent and is now a slightly different shade to, er, whatever shade the rest of it is. But, to its credit, the protective film has done its job properly, and the scratches and scuffs on the passenger-side front wing, the front valance and the wheel arches are confined to the areas covered by the film and look to us to be no more than skin deep. ON THE INSIDE It’s an equally commendable picture on the inside, where the ‘new car’ impression is alive and well. Once again, though, our colour palette vocabulary has proved inadequate in the face of the brown/maroon/burgundy/claret/slightly purple-ish leather trim. We’re more confident, however, that we can describe the leather seats as being pretty much ‘cream’ in hue and shade. Either way, all of it is in excellent condition and there are none of the usual indicators of time, wear or use that you would normally associate with a car that’s 17 years old. The door cards are fine, as is the headlining. So, too, are the carpets and mats. The centre console, instruments, steering wheel, boot, etc, are all following the same impressive script. We can’t make any claims about the full functionality of switches, knobs, levers, toggles, buttons, dials or other electrics as we haven’t started or driven the car. UNDERNEATH The clean, dry engine and engine bay look fine and the undersides of the car appear to have plenty of structural integrity. HISTORY HIGHLIGHTS Unless otherwise stated, this car comes with no history or service records beyond whatever photocopied records are shown in the gallery. No documents shown in the gallery in any way constitute any kind of licensing or registration certification. It must be registered in the country of your choice and you will need to contact the appropriate vehicle licensing agency for instructions on how to do this. WHAT WE THINK Well, basically, this is a factory fresh, delivery-kilometres Aston Martin V8 Vantage that just happens to be have been built in 2006. Provided, of course, that the engine, electrics and mechanicals are amenable to recommissioning and as good as the rest of it, we think this is sure to be one of the best examples of the model you could hope to find anywhere. We’re confident to offer this car for auction with an estimate of €40,000 - €60,000. Viewing is always encouraged, and this particular car is located in a bonded warehouse near Amsterdam.
