They are curiosities, and a brief distraction from his static life. Here's
roughly my Strahd vs Party Progression: Sunlight is so powerful at shutting down
Strahd's abilities, and in the hands of highly mobile or multi-attack
characters, it is not something to overestimate.

Another turning point is when the party reaches ~8th level and can make sunlight
through either artifact. Strahd knows he can pursue a successor after he deals
with existential threats. For instance, if he senses one of the party members
has a selfish streak, offering them treasure and permission to leave in return
for locating or killing Van Richten.įinding a successor is a goal, but a minor
one when threats like Van Richten and Ezmerelda become more and more prominent
in the narrative. He is trying to get the party to further one of his many
goals. He tries to drive wedges by playing on character flaws, but not for
amusement.

He hardly took notice of the party at low levels until they did something big.
For instance, most Vasili plotlines I read on here are just too silly or
roundabout for my game. I do agree that Strahd is less of a malevolent prankster
than some posts on this sub would have you believe. This leads him to doing some
things, like creating his vampire brides, that he would not have done in the
novel, but I felt OK keeping in the module. In that time, Strahd becomes less
and less human and more bored with his tortured existence. Although the novel
Strahd and module do differ in one important way: consider how young Strahd is
in the novel vs the module. He's less of the Joker and more Ra's Al Ghul. Just
looking for advice on this small "mid adventure crisis" I am having. i have
flirted with the idea that he's up to a grander scheme about leaving Barovia and
taking his "army" with him, perhaps to Faerun by building some Deus Ex Machina,
but it seems very "supervillany". I just put myself in my players shoes and
wonder, what purpose do they have to confront him? They don't have a strong
enough connection to Ireena. He has given the PCs a grace period which is about
to expire, but it doesn't seem like he would swoop down immediately and start
attacking once it ends. He has even saved them from being killed from the Hags,
for breaking his rules. My Strahd looks down at my party for being rude, but
doesn't feel threatened by any of them. My PC's have met Strahd several times,
none of which he has attacked them. So I guess my question is, how do I maintain
true to character and thus the story? He's a reset switch of Barovia, with him
acting as Neo, and the Dark Powers the Matrix itself. It has me at a crossroads
as I continuously see Strahd not the villain but just another tool of the dark
powers. So when I read many posts of Strahd antagonizing the PC's or setting
traps for them, corrupting them, or outright fighting them, it doesn't seem true
to character. He doesn't antagonize unless antagonized. He never comes across as
someone who is going to deliberately bother anyone unless the rules are broken.
He frequently rewards those for loyalty, and punishes those who have offended
him/his rule/his land/etc. But in the novel, Strahd seems less of a figure who
will toy around with people. Obviously, his desire over Ireena/Tatyana, is 100%
fully explained and kept. However, it does confuse me a bit towards Strahd's
motivations when it comes to having strangers in his land.

My assumption is Chris Perkins just rebooted some of the facts to keep the novel
relevant. Even though it was written back in 1993 to coincide with the 2nd
Edition Ravenloft modules, it surprisingly holds up well to the current
information written some 20+ years later in "Curse of Strahd". I just finished
PN Elrod's novel, "I Strahd: The Memoirs of a Vampire", as a way to understand
the character better.

Other clinical features include segmental iris sphincter palsy, light-near
dissociation, and cholinergic hypersensitivity. The denervation occurs at the
level of the ciliary ganglion, with aberrant regeneration of accommodation
occurring over the course of the next 1-2 years. Adie's tonic pupil is typically
initially unilateral (80%), with increased risk of involvement of the
contralateral pupil over time. This results in a sudden fixed, dilated pupil and
loss of accommodation in that eye. They eventually merge with the nasociliary
nerve (V1), which travels through the annulus of Zinn.Ĭlinical Correlations

reinnervation. The sensory nerves travel along both short and long ciliary

the short ciliary nerves. The postganglionic sympathetic nerves travel a long
distance from the superior cervical ganglion to get to the eye and travel along
the long ciliary nerves.The postganglionic parasympathetic nerves have a short
distance to go to the eye and travel along the short ciliary nerves.Only 1 group
of nerves synapses in the ganglion (parasympathetic).There are essentially 3
groups of nerves that course through the ciliary ganglion (sensory,
parasympathetic, sympathetic).These sympathetic fibers do NOT synapse in the
ciliary ganglion, and follow the long posterior ciliary nerves and short ciliary
nerves to innervate the pupillary dilator muscle (1-2, 6) Tips and Hints These
are NOT myelinated, and arise from the superior cervical ganglion, which is
located near the angle of the jaw and the bifurcation of the common carotid
artery. There are also postganglionic sympathetic fibers that course through the
ciliary ganglion. They course along the short ciliary nerves to innervate the
iris sphincter (only 3-5% of the postganglionic parasympathetic fibers are
pupillomotor!) and ciliary muscles (6-7). The postganglionic (postsynaptic)
parasympathetic nerves are myelinated. These fibers course along CN3, follow
along the inferior division of CN3 when it splits at the level of the annulus of
Zinn, and forms the motor root entering the ciliary ganglion, where they
synapse. As you might guess, the parasympathetic fibers here mediate the pupil
constriction (light) and accommodative responses.

Preganglionic (presynaptic) parasympathetic nerves arising from the
Edinger-Westphal nucleus in the CN3 complex synapse in the ciliary ganglion.
These fibers travel along the short and long ciliary nerves through the ciliary
ganglion without synapsing and forms a sensory root exiting the ciliary ganglion
posteriorly before merging with the nasociliary nerve, which course along V1 and
ultimately synapse at the trigeminal ganglion (1).įor more information about the
sensory nerves to the eye, stay tuned - this will be a separate article. The
sensory nerves that travel from the eye are actually fibers of the nasociliary
nerve, a branch of the trigeminal nerve (V1).

It receives its blood supply from the posterior lateral ciliary artery
(supplying the anterior half of the ganglion) and from the lateral muscular
arterial trunk (entering the ganglion from its lateral side) (2, 5).

The ciliary ganglion is small, usually measuring 2 mm horizontally and 1 mm
vertically. According to the Basic and Clinical Science Course, it is located
lateral to the ophthalmic artery, situated between optic nerve and lateral
rectus muscle, approximately 1 cm (10 mm) anterior to the annulus of Zinn and
1.5-2 cm (15-20 mm) posterior to the globe (1-5). Because of the many nerves
that course through it (not all of them synapse!) and its anatomical location,
this structure is of importance in learning the basics of ophthalmology. The
ciliary ganglion serves as the site of synapse for the parasympathetic nerves
innervating the eye.

Please use the print function of CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS) or Internet
Service of our products by converting the target files to PDF format using Adobe
Acrobat, etc.In case that you may face this symptom using our Mac OS X printer
drivers after upgrading macOS Monterey 12.3, please refer to the workarounds
explained below. If macOS Monterey 12.3 is available before our release of the
fixed printer drivers, we would recommend our customers to wait the macOS
upgrading.

We plan to release the improved version of Mac OS X printer drivers in the
middle of March 2022. Mac OS X printer drivers currently available do not
support macOS Monterey 12.3. Please note that we confirmed the PostScript
drivers works properly without this issue.

The symptom is caused by our printer drivers for Mac OS X currently available
for our products.

 * Note This symptom is found on macOS Monterey 12.3 Beta as of Mahence, the
   symptom may change after the final release of macOS Monterey 12.3.
 * We confirmed by our testing that the print jobs cannot be proceeded as they
   are not sent to the printer after they are stored in the print spooler on Mac
   OS X when you use our current Mac OS X printer drivers in the upgraded
   environment to macOS Monterey 12.3. In our internal compatibility test for
   macOS Monterey 12.3 Beta, we found the potential issue of the printing
   function in the use of our current Mac OS X printer drivers on macOS Monterey
   12.3.ĭue to above mentioned situation, we would recommend our customers to
   confirm the symptoms before upgrading macOS to macOS Monterey 12.3. First of
   all, we would like to thank you for your continuous patronage towards
