REDUCTION (DRR) CAPACITY INCLUDING ENHANCEMENT OF DRR-RELATED PERSONNEL

LATEST DISASTER INFORMATION

2024/10/10 Sri Lanka :  Flood In the past few days, most provinces of Sri Lanka
have been experiencing heavy rainfall and strong winds, causing floods and
severe weather-related incidents that resulted in casualties and damage.
2024/10/08 United States of America (the) :  Hurricane Hurricane Milton made
landfall on the night of 9 October 2024 as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key,
on the central west coast of Florida, U.S.A., the National Hurricane Center
said. Milton had sustained winds of 120 mph at landfall, but its strength
diminished to Category 1 as it moved inland across the state. More than 3.2
million customers were without power in Florida early Thursday, 10 October,
according to utility tracker PowerOutage.us. 2024/09/27 Nepal :  Flood At least
100 people have been killed in Nepal since early on Friday, 27 September 2024 as
persistent downpours triggered flooding and landslides, closing major roads and
disrupting domestic air travel, officials said on 28 September 2024. Most of the
deaths took place in the Kathmandu valley, which is home to 4 million people and
the capital of the country, where the flooding brought traffic and normal
activity to a standstill. 2024/09/26 United States of America (the) :  Hurricane
Hurricane Helene crashed ashore in the Big Bend area of Florida, USA on Thursday
night of 26 September 2024 as a dangerous Category 4 hurricane. From there, it
quickly moved through Georgia, then it soaked the Carolinas and Tennessee with
torrential rains, sending creeks and rivers over their banks and straining dams.
At least 116 people across multiple states were killed by Helene, a monster
storm that caused a path of devastation that stretched over 600 miles.
2024/09/20 Japan :  Flood Seven people are dead in the wake of torrential
downpours in the central Ishikawa Prefecture of Japan since 20 September 2024
that have caused rivers to flood and mudslides across the Noto region. Some
people living in temporary shelters following the New Years Day earthquake are
once again facing recovery efforts, this time from flooding.
