1. 2. 3. WHO ARE WE? The Osa Biodiversity Survey (OBS) is a community of naturalists dedicated to cataloguing the flora and fauna of the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. The OBS is instrumental in enhancing the collection of Osa’s biodiversity records; these range from mini-fauna to rare and endemic species, and even apex predators. This region-wide monitoring effort will help guide future conservation and restoration efforts in one of the last wild places on our planet. EXPLORE OSA’S BIODIVERSITY Find out what biodiversity can be seen in the Osa Peninsula, who has the most observations, which protected area has the most species, and which species are the most observed. Best of all, explore live leaderboards, maps and images to find out which species still need to be recorded and help us find them! Contribute to the OBS and climb the rankings. BECOME AN OBSERVER! Join the OBS and become a citizen scientist. Create an account at inaturalist.org or download the app on your phone. Follow the Osa Biodiversity Survey project and help monitor the Osa Peninsula’s biodiversity. Get outside and upload your observations to iNaturalist. Watch your observations appear on this page, and contribute to the vital long-term monitoring of this unique landscape – we can’t do it without you! SIGN UP To get involved, create an account at inaturalist.org. Start exploring and see your observations appear here! DISCOVER MORE What is the Amistosa Biodiversity Survey? Like the OBS, the Amistosa Biodiversity Survey (ABS) is a community of naturalists cataloguing the biodiversity of southern Costa Rica. This survey runs from La Amistad International Park and through biological corridors to the Osa Peninsula. Take your observations beyond Osa and join the ABS today! 139804 Observations 8134 Species 3692 Observers 5690 Identifiers TOP 50 MOST OBSERVATIONS 1 frankchaves6830 2 veroalpizar55433 katia3746024 marco46440385 heinerziegler22866 rob2120377 suyenlopez20198 gernotkunz19429 luanatura154610 apistopanchax133911 rp_r3126412 capepolly124113 marinachaves116614 yolanfa116515 hannahfloyd_naturalist114816 rp_r5108817 pb_c1105718 leo_alvalc102619 leiner95720 gringocurt84921 paul_norwood84022 osaconservation81623 jacksonfrost72224 arleth_rodriguez68025 sea-kangaroo66926 timo2759827 ticoswildstudio56328 siwanicki54729 steve_orridge52930 andyenlaselva52431 oridgen1051632 jo_de_pauw51433 lesmes51034 miguel195850535 loarie50336 gianfranco49737 birdernaturalist49338 opisska48639 mason_s48240 project_dusk47341 lucaboscain46642 loganw45043 threeagoutdoors44344 elliottsteele42945 henry18042246 maxponce41847 laura_palacin_fernandez41248 marvinlopez40749 dloarie40350 leshibug397 MOST SPECIES 1 frankchaves1104 2 heinerziegler9553 marco4648174 gernotkunz7845 katia377336 leo_alvalc6397 veroalpizar6108 gringocurt5579 yolanfa49010 hannahfloyd_naturalist48611 luanatura47912 rob2147213 capepolly45714 apistopanchax45015 paul_norwood40316 rp_r337117 leiner35718 marinachaves35619 lostincr28920 miguel195828021 ticoswildstudio27522 rp_r526323 laura_palacin_fernandez26324 pb_c125525 gianfranco25426 jacksonfrost25327 marvinlopez25228 nathaliatapia23929 jo_de_pauw23830 maxponce23531 andyenlaselva23432 birdernaturalist23333 sea-kangaroo23034 timo2722735 suyenlopez22036 loarie21637 dloarie21538 eduardo_chacon21339 lucaboscain20740 loganw20141 hholbrook19842 elliottsteele19643 mason_s19444 oridgen1019445 leshibug19346 henry18019247 golfodulceretreat19248 threeagoutdoors18749 tannp18350 lnolaker182 MOST OBSERVED SPECIES 1 Common Basilisk1139 2 Scarlet Macaw11103 Osa Anole8584 Central American Spider Monkey8175 Central American White-faced Capuchin7766 White-nosed Coati7617 Common Black Hawk6838 Yellow-throated Toucan6729 Baird's Tapir65310 Central American Squirrel Monkey64311 Scarlet-rumped Tanager61412 Giant Toad58213 Green Iguana57414 Bare-throated Tiger-Heron56615 Mantled Howler Monkey51916 Ecuadorian Hermit Crab51917 Northern Black-throated Trogon51818 Northern Tamandua47819 Yellow-headed Caracara46520 Golden Silk Spider45721 Black Vulture45022 Rosenberg's Gladiator Frog45023 Terciopelo44324 Roadside Hawk44325 Great Curassow42926 American Crocodile41327 Red-eyed Tree Frog39928 White Ibis39229 Savage's Thin-toed Frog38530 Banded Peacock33631 Red-lored Parrot33232 Fitzinger's Robber Frog33133 Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth30534 Green-and-black Poison Dart Frog30435 Brown Pelican29936 Tropical Kingbird29837 Collared Peccary28538 Four-lined Whiptail28239 Ornate Cat-eyed Snake28140 Stejneger's Robber Frog27441 Spotted Sandpiper27342 Border Anole27343 Black Spiny-tailed Iguana26844 Crested Caracara26645 Magnificent Frigatebird24946 Fiery-billed Aracari24147 Masked Tree Frog24048 Black-hooded Antshrike23749 Slaty-tailed Trogon23650 Golfo Dulce Poison Dart Frog235 FILTER BY Location Species The Osa Peninsula encompasses a variety of terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
