Kinda lost on where to start…Anyway I’m thrilled that I made the right choice to stay at this amazing resort instead of only heading to their Diavolo Restaurant for dinner. The outdoor terrace of Diavolo Restaurant offers panoramic view of the Andaman Sea, perfect for watching sunset. However if you are staying at the resort, almost all the rooms have an infinity pool offering similar view~ Reluctantly we dragged our feets out from our cozy and spacious room and took a short walk to the Diavolo Restaurant to enjoy our pre-dinner cocktails at 6pm as there was 1-for-1 during Happy Hour. =) Had Mai Tai and Cosmopolitan for total of around S$14++. Though it wasn’t perfect clear sky that evening, we could still enjoy the beautiful hues of the setting sun. *P.S the corner table on Diavolo Restaurant terrace is the most sought-after seats* We didn’t book a table at the restaurant itself as we will be enjoying our dinner at their infinity pool~ It was indeed one of the most memorable dinner I ever had cos of its unique location. We waded across a shallow pool to get to our “island”. The sun loungers were transformed into dining set-up with a long table combo. Right before our eyes was the fibre-optic lit infinity pool with its colour-changing glows. We had the whole area to ourselves as we were the only couple having dinner at the infinity pool that day. Bread and Chef’s Amuse Bouche – Parma ham & melon was served first. My honest opinion – while the ambience was great the lighting was a little too dark for us to appreciate the visual aspects of the food while relying on the small candle light source. Nonetheless we had fun trying to use our phone flashlight to brighten up the lighting for photo taking. Our first appetizer was Carpaccio di Wagyu Carpaccio of wagyu beef with “Harry’s bar” dressing, parmesan crisp, mesclun greens and confit cherry tomato and Tartare trio Sea bass with wholegrain mustard and green apple, Scottish salmon with horse radish, dill & creme fraiche and King prawn with orange zest, black pepper and crispy Serrano ham. The carpaccio was lightly seasoned, bringing out the freshness of the carpaccio. For the tartare trio, I liked the salmon one the best. Raw prawns are not exactly my cup of tea while the sea bass tasted slightly fishy. The Paresa Sorbet was served as palate cleanser before our main course. The raspberry sorbet was zesty and refreshing. It took a while before the main was ready and we took the time to snap some photos around the pool. Once we hear the splashing sound of the waiter waddling through the water, we knew our food was going to be served. We had the Surf & turf Sauteed beef filet mignon with crispy polenta, potato espuma in green peppercorn jus Char grilled Phuket lobster tail (half) roast green apple puree, crispy prosciutto and orange/cointreau bisque sauce and Lobster Pad Prik Thai Dom Stir-fried lobster Thai-style with local farmed egetable and black pepper sauce. The steak was cooked to our order of medium-rare, tender and juicy while the stir-fried lobster was devilishly delicious. The lobster was chewy and al-dente, way better than the one we had in Patong seafood place… Dessert were Khao neow Ma Muang Freshly sliced Thai mango with mango sticky rice and coconut cream and Creme Brulee Organic ginger creme brulee with carmelised brown sugar torched tropical fruit and toffee sauce. It took us 2 hours to finish our 3-course meal, would suggest other diners to start their dinner earlier (we only had ours at 7pm) so that you can enjoy half of the meal before it goes into total darkness. KAAB GLUAY THAI RESTAURANT, PHUKET On December 8, 2014December 22, 2014 By YummyDelightIn Casual, Thai, ThailandLeave a comment After staying 2 nights in the bustling Patong area, we are going to move to Kamala area to fully recharge and relax in a luxurious resort. Before leaving Patong, we headed to Kaab Gluay Thai Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is located on Phrabarami Road, a main road which leads to Phuket town, the place is quite easy to spot. Our driver – Mr Bobby (+66 805362285) is well-aware of this eatery. Ordered a few of our usual Thai fare: Clear Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai and Deep-fried honeyed chicken in pandanus leaves, deep-fried crab meat with pork & egg and a special order of Stir-fried Winged Bean. I was delighted to find them serving Winged Bean! I first spotted Herbed Salad with Winged Bean in the menu but requested them to serve as stir-fried instead. Winged bean is not commonly found in Singapore, I fondly remember eating it in Malaysia. Luv the texture of the winged bean – its a cross between French bean and Long bean. The Tom Yum soup was filled with generous seafood, pad thai fried to a nice texture (not too gooey nor too dry) and deep-fried crab cake tasted good with their sweet thai-chilli dip. Everything at Kaab Gluay was perfect. It’s one of the cheapest meal I had in Patong area, paid S$28 (including 2 non-alcoholic drinks) for a satisfying and filling lunch. Will be happy to return anytime if I visit Phuket again! Other photos of the trip: Daytrip to Similan Islands arranged through “Mr Mark Tour“, services rendered by http://www.similanprodive.com Goodbye Patong! Splurged on a 2.5 hour spa/massage. Good service and facilities at Burasari Spa. Yummy banana-chocolate crepe bought from the street hawker. Saw the stall owner opened a new packet of the flour mixture used to make the crepe. They used pre-mixes now hence not so much concern about hygiene. I tend to also observe the general cleanliness of the stall before making purchases from street stalls. THE CRAB’S HOUSE, PHUKET On December 7, 2014July 31, 2022 By YummyDelightIn Asian, Casual, Seafood, ThailandLeave a comment After having a bright and sunny day trip out to Similan Islands for the whole day, bad weather caught up with us just when we were heading for late dinner at The Crab’s House, Phuket. Despite having a brolly, the heavy rain with gusting wind made our search for the restaurant more difficult. In fact we took a total of 1.5 hours to find the place…which supposed to be pretty near Jungceylon Shopping Mall. Crazy as it sounds but sometimes you get drawn into trying to figure things out and time just flew by. Even after conducting an AAR, we couldn’t figured out “what happened” that led to the helpless 1.5 hours find…First we relied on map 1 below. Braving the rain, we walked along the main road which seemed to have a different name (not Patong Sai 3 road, but Phanmeuang road on google). Without any other landmarks on the map, we stopped to ask a shop owner along the street after passing by Soi Sansabai for a long while. The shop owner told us there was no such place further down the road…so we turned back. *Turns out this unit is just 3 shops away from the actual restaurant!!!!* We tried to google again for other map that can help us locate the shop. Found the 2nd map (from The Crab’s House facebook) above which seemed to show that the restaurant is in a small alley and not on the main road. Again it was a fruitless attempt…. Tried calling the restaurant, but nobody picked up the call…Tried asking cashier at nearby FamilyMart but was again told “No such place“…Called my local driver to ask and he said doesn’t know of the shop but he will check for me. At this moment I was thinking “Seriously?! Is this a phantom shop????“. Searched the internet again to verify the address and chanced upon a website that said the shop was opposite APK. We saw APK along the main road – Phangmeuang Road earlier on~ That’s how we finally located the shop…Can you imagine our anger when we passed by the shop owner who told us “No such place” earlier? By the time we got settled down for dinner, it was already 10.30pm…Ordered the Chilli Crab, Prawns with glass noodles and thai herb and Steamed Squid in Chilli Vinaigrette. Thankfully the food here was really good (though it still doesn’t make up for the 1.5hrs merry-go-round search). The Chilli Crab was spicy enough, pretty close to Singapore version. The steamed squid blew me away, the vinaigrette was awesome and squid was soft & chewy. Luv this dish!!! The prawns were huge but the glass noodles weren’t that impressive (I’ve tasted better versions in Bangkok). The meal cost S$88 (including 2 beers) which is quite reasonably priced to me. The food quality here is better than the seafood place near Patong beach we had the day before. So here’s an map edited by me to include some landmarks near the restaurant to help others’ who may be keen to find the place. It’s about 10 mins walk from Jungceylon on fair weather…the heavy rain we encountered made the walking journey even longer… Other Related Posts: * Savoey Restaurant, Phuket * MK Gold Restaurant, Phuket LOVE TO SHARE? * Email * Facebook * * Save * Like Loading... SAVOEY RESTAURANT, PHUKET On December 6, 2014January 1, 2021 By YummyDelightIn Casual, Seafood, ThailandLeave a comment After an evening stroll on the iconic Patong beach to see the stunning sunset, we crossed the road to have an early dinner at Savoey Restaurant. The restaurant is a well-established eatery that had 20 years history. We decided to eat here, despite the fact that probably all seafood in Patong are overpriced and too touristy, as we didn’t want to venture out of Patong area. Firstly, taxi service is by no means cheap on Phuket, most of the “local” seafood eateries are located in not-so-accessible areas on the island. Getting from one beach area to the next beach area cost 400baht onwards one-way (approx. S$16). Secondly, we wanted to end our day early and have a good rest for tomorrow’s long day. The open-air restaurant had sheltered and alfresco dining area. We were shown to the sheltered area which had a bigger table for us to put our bags. At 7pm, customers had just started flowing in. There was live band performance at the garden area, luckily the music volume was well-controlled. Ordered tropical cocktails to start our dinner – Andaman Sunset and Made in Thailand. Alcoholic beverages are generally cheap (compared to Sgp) even in restaurants, these cost ard S$8 for each. Luv my pinkish Andaman Sunset drink. Same as many other seafood eateries in Thailand, the restaurant has a variety of fresh seafood on display. You can pick the item you want and tell the Chef how you want them to be cooked. We opted to try live lobster priced at around S$15 per 100 grams. Decided to go for Baked Lobster with butter and garlic sauce, thinking that with minimal flavouring we can taste the freshness of the lobster…Bad choice…the lobster turned out overcooked…The meat tasted as if the Lobster was a MMA fighter…full of tough muscles…the most expensive item (S$86) for our dinner turned out the be the worst dish for the night. Thankfully we enjoyed the grilled snapper fish which was perfectly cooked, paired with the delicious spicy chilli dips! Grilled fishes in Thailand had never failed me so far, they are very good at controlling the heat used to cook the delicate fish as they can get burnt easily. The grilled fish was still considered acceptably priced for tourist (expensive by local standards) at S$24. Completed our meal with Stir-fried morning glory and chilli in chinese sauce (S$10). For those not familiar with the term morning glory, its aka “kang-kong”. Except for the lobster, the dishes were pretty good and not too expensive for Singapore tourist price. Of cos I believe the same dishes would cost much less at the local restaurants outside the “everything is jacked-up” Patong area. Time for a short foot massage for 200baht for 30mins (300baht for 60 mins) at basement of Jungceylon – a shop called Montra before resting for the day…Chose to have massage at this shop after seeing the ultra comfortable lazy boy chair that allowed us to recline fully to rest =) Photos taken earlier: Other Related Post: * MK Gold Restaurant, Phuket LOVE TO SHARE? * Email * Facebook * * Save * Like Loading... MK GOLD RESTAURANT, PHUKET On December 6, 2014December 13, 2014 By YummyDelightIn Restaurant, Thai, ThailandLeave a comment Sawadee-ka! Hello from Phuket, Thailand. After checking into our hotel, we walked over to Jungceylon Shopping Mall to enjoy our delectable lunch at MK Gold Restaurant. Didn’t had the chance to try MK Restaurant in Singapore nor Bangkok, so decided to try them out in Phuket. To me, the “Gold” is simply used to justify for the higher pricing, better service and maybe slightly better quality ingredients used. Not sure about the normal MK restaurants, but the decoration at this MK Gold outlet was quite luxurious and elegant. Started our meal with Fresh Coconut and Mango juice. Coconut juice is a must-try in Thailand~ Cooling drink which helped to sooth my tickling sore throat. Similar to COCA Restaurant, MK specialises in Thai-style hot pot sukiyaki (aka steamboat). Ordered the MK Suki set and Seafood set – each set supposed to be for 1 person portion, but it seemed pretty filling as the MK Suki set comprised mostly of the fish-made byproducts along with a few slices of pork. I enjoyed the fish-shaped orange coloured (Salmon) cake, seaweed roll and wanton. The Seafood set included fresh salmon, mussels, cuttlefish, squid, scallops etc. The most important ingredient for thai-style hot pot is their sweet chilli dipping sauce. Compared to the ones at COCA, I think MK’s version lost out as MK didn’t add the chopped coriander…hence was less fragrant. No meal in Thailand can end without their Mango Sticky Rice. The sweet and bright yellow fruit served with warm glutinous rice was heavenly. Somehow the mangoes used in Thailand are all so sweet! Yum. Another interesting observation made at the restaurant was their cleaning staff. They would routinely come out holding a basket filled with cleaning tools inside to inspect the floor. When they spot any litter or marks on the ground, they would kneel down and start cleaning up the spot. Amazed at how and the extend to which they maintained the cleaniness at the restaurant. The meal cost close to S$100… not cheap at all and its not buffet….but we were satisfied with our first meal in Phuket (after a disappointing meal onboard the flight). No complaints about the quality of the ingredients and service at all in MK Gold. Photos from earlier the day: My favourite Butterfly Pea drink was served as welcome drink at the hotel upon check-in.
