WHAT IS TANDEM SKYDIVING? 

Tandem skydiving is like having a superhero strapped to your back during a
skydive! You're securely harnessed to a certified instructor who controls
everything - the jump, the freefall, and the parachute ride down. You don’t need
any prior experience to go tandem skydiving, so you can just relax and enjoy the
incredible views. Here’s what you can expect:


ARRIVAL

We’d recommend arriving at least 15-20 minutes before your scheduled time,
factoring in traffic and any queues at the skydiving location.


TRAINING

Upon arrival, you'll be briefed by the location’s experienced team on safety
procedures, what to expect during the jump, and proper body positioning for
freefall.


GEAR UP

You'll be fitted with a jumpsuit, harness, and goggles. Your instructor will
double-check all the equipment for complete safety.


FLIGHT

Climb aboard the aircraft and enjoy the scenic flight up to 8,000 or 15,000
feet, depending on the ticket you choose. The anticipation will surely build as
you approach jump altitude.


THE DROP

The door will open, and you'll be dangling in mid-air with your instructor. Take
a deep breath and get ready for the adrenaline rush! Experience up to 60 seconds

LANDING

 * Trained professionals: You will be jumping with experienced and certified
   professionals who will ensure the safest jump for you. 
 * Gear: The gear passes multiple checks before it’s put on you, ensuring it is
   in perfect condition when you jump.
 * Emergency procedures: In the rare occurrence that the parachute doesn’t open,
   your instructor will release that canopy and release the reserve parachute. 
 * Insurance: Personal accident insurance of up to $50,000 is included in the
   cost of your skydive.

 * Recommended clothing: Wear loose, casual clothing, like activewear, jeans or
   tracksuit pants.
 * Footwear: Shoes must be fully enclosed. Preferably wear training or running
   shoes. 
 * Outerwear: In the colder months, bring a jumper, jacket or fleece, as the
   dropzone will not be providing any extra clothes.
 * Loose items: Remove any rings, earrings, necklaces, dentures or false teeth
   before your dive – these loose items will drop while you dive!
 * Eyewear: Glasses and contact lenses are completely fine to wear – inform your
   instructor before you dive if you’re wearing contact lenses, so they can
   provide goggles to protect them.

CARRY:

 * Relevant medication like that for motion sickness
 * Change of clothes
 * Sunscreen
 * Sunglasses

DON’T CARRY:

 * Mobile phones, headphones, or any loose electronics
 * Any heavy belongings, like a bag, backpack, or purse.
 * Bubble/Chewing gum
 * Any sharp objects - knives, scissors, etc

 * Do not consume any alcoholic beverages or recreational drugs up to 12 hours
   before your jump. This is a requirement of the Australian Parachute
   Federation, and the venue may ask to conduct a breath analysis test if they
   suspect you are under the influence. 
 * Eat a balanced, light meal before your jump. Avoid fast food, extremely oily
   or greasy food and spicy dishes. Try to eat fruits, vegetables and any other
   light snacks. 
 * Avoid sugary drinks and caffeinated beverages, as they may cause palpitations
   or heightened anxiety before your jump. 
 * Hydrate just before your jump, but don’t overdo it. Drink just enough water
   (around 1-2 glasses), and don’t dehydrate yourself out of fear.

 * Surcharges may be applied if you’re over 94 kg or over, and the teams at the
   drop zones may additionally perform a check to see if skydiving is safe for
   you. 
 * Pregnant women are not allowed to skydive. 
 * A diver must be over the age of 16 in Australia to skydive, and divers under
   18 must be accompanied by a guardian, who will be present during the dive. 
 * If you’ve been scuba diving up to 24 hours before your designated jump time,
   you will not be allowed to jump. The sudden change in altitude and pressure
   will alter the way your body usually reacts to these changes.

As skydiving is highly dependent on having clear skies – look at the forecast
before you book your tickets. However, don't worry! Melbourne usually sees clear
skies for a good chunk of the year, and tickets rarely get rescheduled.

 * Note: If the weather is unfavourable on the day of your jump, the venue may
   reschedule your jump. If you can’t make it to the rescheduled day and time
   due to scheduling conflicts, your money will be refunded.

Dressing for the weather: Make sure to dress comfortably and carry a jacket,
regardless of the season. Wear SPF 30 and above, even if the forecast is cloudy,
and make sure to take any motion-sickness medicine before your jump.




TIPS FOR SKYDIVING IN MELBOURNE

 * Safety instructions: Make sure to pay incredibly close attention to the
   team’s instructions. Treat their words as the ultimate thing you need to know
   before jumping, as they have years of professional experience. 
 * Capture your experience: We’d recommend going for the Handycam photo and
   video option. The camera will capture your expressions and joy in real time,
   and will serve as the only souvenir you need from this experience! 
 * Not feeling well? If you don't feel well on the day of your jump, communicate

 * Dealing with anxiety: Remember that it is normal to feel anxious before
   skydiving, especially if it's your first time. If you're feeling anxious
   before, try levelling your breathing and practising any techniques that help.

How old do you have to be to jump?


The minimum age requirement to skydive in Australia is 16 years. If you’re under

How long will you be in the air?


Though everything from the registration process to the flight will take about
2-3 hours in total, once you’ve jumped you’ll only be in the air for about 5-7
minutes! Your instructor will release the parachute once your freefall is done,
which is about 60 seconds into your jump, after which you can enjoy your descent
towards the ground.


Are photos and videos included in the tandem skydiving experiences?


You can choose the handycam photo and video option while buying your general
ticket for a small extra charge. We'd recommend getting this, as there'll be a
professional skydiver recording your entire experience – you'll also get to take
your memories home with you after your jump!


What is the difference between jumping from 8,000 ft versus 15,000 feet?


Jumping from 8,000 feet would have you freefalling for less than 30 seconds,
whereas jumping from 15,000 feet would have you freefalling for at least 60
seconds before your instructor pulls the parachute!


What are the different skydive drop zones in Melbourne?

While your ticket cannot be cancelled, you can reschedule your skydiving booking

Can I breathe during the freefall while skydiving?
