My reduced hearing means I miss some dialogue on TV, though my wife can hear it.
I purchased this headset based on the description and reviews. Yes its easy to
set up, and easy to use, and the sound quality is good. However, despite the
enclosed paper guide suggesting I can use the headphones while my wife listens
to the TV speakers, this is not correct, and its not a sound/audio option on my
TV settings. Its headphone only once plugged in, or TV speakers only and no
headphone, you cant use both at the same time on a normal domestic TV. I have a
2 yr old 32" SONY TV of good quality and was using the 3 ring audio jack as
shown in the guide, however my TV doesn't have an Optical socket which this
headset could plug into and the optical wire is included. Wondering if an
optical socket would fix the problem I went to CURRYS to buy a new TV with an
optical plug. However a very knowledgeable member of staff explained what the
Optical socket offers compared to the jack plug, and he said no standard
domestic TV will allow headphones, and TV speakers, to work at the same time. He
said to have both I would have to buy a very large and expensive hi spec TV, and
he assured me nothing he could sell me of normal domestic size and cost would
allow me to use the headphones while the wife listened to the TV speakers at the
same time. He suggested an option was for both people wear headphones at the
same time. This device can work with two headphones (as shown in the advert
pictures) if I buy a second pair, and if the wife would want to wear them when
watching TV with me as her hearing is fine. So in conclusion on normal modern TV
it only works with one or two headphones and no TV speakers, or TV speakers and
no headphone, so I can only use this headset on my own. - On the positive side I
saved money as I was considering buying a newer TV with an optical plug, which I
know now would have been a waste of money.

The Avantree neckband earphones are a godsend to the hard of hearing & probably
moreso to those living with them and their next door neighbours. They are
brilliant, but not without their problems unless the latest version has solved
them. I bought my first set 2 years ago and loved them. It wasn’t long though
before I started have connection problems. The customer service is superb. They
replaced those earphones & at least two more sets since then. They would stop
charging or lose volume. The last 2 sets I had started off very loud, too loud &
the volume control wouldn’t work, but the volume decreased over time and was
good until it eventually after a few months became too low. My last set still
works, just. I can still just about hear the tv, but only if I keep still &
really concentrate and there is no other noise. As I’d had 2 years use since the
original purchase, I decided to buy a new set. I did look, but there really
doesn’t seem to be anything as good on the market. I do have headphones, but
they’re heavy, mess up my hair and seemed to be giving me a bald patch, so only
use them when I really have to i.e. when the Avantree ones aren’t working. I’ve
had my new ones now for almost 3 weeks and they are perfect. The sound is
excellent, very clear and not too loud. As with the all the others, the volume
control does nothing, one earbud is bigger than the other & falls out sometimes,
but not a big problem. I’m hoping that previously encountered issues have been
resolved & that these will keep working for a long time to come. I'd like to
give them 5 stars, but can't because of the previous problems, but if the new
ones keep on working I will change to 5 stars.
Update - 3 months later I have fallen out of love with these. It wasn't long
after I wrote this review, that problems started. The issues have not been
resolved. The volume has been low for some time, I can still hear, but only
just. Often when I walk into my kitchen, the sound cuts out & I usually can't
get it back on, as happened this morning. I'd only been using them a few
minutes, went back to the kitchen for something, they cut out & wouldn't
reconnect when I went back to the living room even after switching off and on
again. I am very disappointed & not sure what to try next. I'm removing a star.
3 might be rather generous, but they are great while they work. I really wish
they'd work for longer. 3 months is not good value for £60.

My tv headphone socket cuts the sound to the sound bar, so it’s taken me a while
to use these after purchase. I tried the output of the skybox but that would
unpredictabIy interfere with the broadcast and there was a delay in the sound. I
ended up buying an optical splitter and connecting to the back of the tv like
that and that has solved it - not a problem with the headphones just my
connections.
I had to try out all of the earbud shapes and sizes to try and get the best
sound. It comes with 4 different ones and also two different curved ear parts. I
found the sound lacking in bass and fullness but this vastly improved when I got
the right buds. I’d still like a little more bass, hence 4 stars.
I have a hearing loss (not in the bass frequencies) so these have been a great
solution. I can even mute the tv and still hear through the headphones. I can go
and make a cup of tea and still hear the sound from the kitchen. My husband
doesn’t have to suffer a loud tv and sometimes turning the tv up just didn’t
help anyway. I’m hearing better through these than just turning my hearing aids
up with the tv on.
It connects flawlessly to the Bluetooth. I power them via the USB on the back of
the tv with the provided lead. The headphone charge seems to last quite a long
time. I haven’t tested it, but so far they’ve been charged when I need them.
It’s a nice touch that the ear parts are magnetic so they clip together when not
in use.
I’m really very happy with them, but a better bass sound would make them
perfect.
