REVITALIZING AFRICAN FISHING COMMUNITIES BY MAKING THE BENEFITS OF AQUACULTURE ACCESSIBLE TO THE SMALLHOLDER FARMER. OUR STORY ACIK means “fisherman” in our local language - and that’s who we are. We live on the shores of Lake Kyoga in Eastern Uganda but we can no longer fish because the fish population has been depleted. https://www.monitor.co.ug/uganda/news OUR MISSION We are creating a fish farm to train fisherfolk in aquaculture and help them start their own farms, Our enterprise is totally local and bottom-up https://www.monitor.co.ug/uganda/magazine SUPPORT US With your help, we can become totally self-sustaining within six years and help enabling hundreds, if not thousands, of families to pull themselves out of extreme poverty. COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION The Aquaculture Community Initiative Kyoga (ACIK) is a legally registered, not-for-profit Ugandan CBO initiated by fisherfolk to ensure a livelihood and food security for their community and other communities in Uganda and East Africa.
