May 10, 2017 · Fix Mac Screen,Macbook Support,Apple Customer care

Mac startup issues can arise in any form, but getting halt at the gray screen
can be counted amongst the most troublesome as there can be many possible
causes. Additionally, there are many Mac problems that get confused for the blue
or gray screen startup problem.

This can happen anytime, thus leaving you frustrated and troubleshooting it is
not an easy task. Let's learn how to configure it-

Detach all peripherals-

One of the main issues of gray or blue screen during startup is due to
incompatible hardware linked to the device. This could be a printer, a USB hub
or an external hard drive. So, disconnect every device except the mouse and
keyboard. And then restart the computer.
In case, if no external device has been the root cause and your Mac still won't
boot, then you have to dig a bit deeper to know the cause.

Performing a Safe Boot-

Safe Boot lets your Mac to boot up with minimum amount of drivers required to
make it work, simultaneously it checks your hard disk in the process. For doing
this, start up your computer while holding Shift key until the Apple logo
appears. If it doesn't start normally then give a closer look to hard drive.

If you cannot boot up Mac OS X normally, then run Disk Utility and check out the
hard drive-

 * Boot up your computer while holding down Command+R. This will boot the Mac
   into diagnostic mode.
 * Choose the Disk Utility option.
 * Select the hard drive and click Verify. Wait till the Disk utility finish
   running.
 * Click Repairs if issues pop up.
 *  Click Repair Permissions if nothing pops up and wait for Disk Utility to
examine or review your hard drive again.
 * Go ahead and reboot if Disk Utility finds and repairs some issue.
