When a stock market collapsed, stock prices would have fallen much more from
their peaks. It is not uncommon for prices to withdraw around 40-50% of their
gains Börsencrash 2022 in a very short period of time, although it has taken
many months and even years for prices to rise to their highest prices.

THE STOCK MARKET CRASHED

When the stock market has collapsed, tech-savvy traders, or traders who have
relied on technical analysis to time their entries and exits, would often become
far more concerned about the accuracy of their timing indicators, especially if
they were not successful at identify their exits before the market crash.
Eventually, if their technical time indicators had been good, they would have
predicted or identified the impending crash before it happened. If their timing
devices were unable to successfully identify the impact signal, it’s easy to
understand why their confidence in their time keeping devices would be
compromised and diminished.

When this happens, some technical traders turn to fundamental analysis to look
for trading opportunities. I often hear the question asked, “What fundamental
ratio can I use to pick stocks that would recover quickly after a crash?”

I HEAR THIS QUESTION

Whenever I hear this question, I would be reminded of the true story of a
finance professor who taught investment and portfolio management at a
prestigious university. With years of experience as a university lecturer, he
went looking for stocks for his personal investment after a stock market crash.
As a proponent of value investing, he had read all the books filled with solid
data proving that stocks with low PE ratios ( price-to-earnings ratios) would
outperform glamor stocks regardless of market conditions. It didn’t matter if
the market was bullish or bearish.
But the stocks he bought after the low P/E market crash continued to fall. To
his astonishment, these stocks turned out to be turkeys.

AFTER THE INTERVIEW

After interviewing some practicing money managers and professional stock
traders, he found that what they were doing didn’t really resemble what he
thought was value investing. Unlike the low P/E stocks he picked after the
crash, which became turkeys, these professional money managers and traders had
picked great companies that had stumbled during the crash, and these were the
stars at the Recovery exploded in price.

When fleeing to quality stocks after a market crash, you can pick great stocks
with good fundamentals that stumbled in price and were propelled lower during
the market crash, and then use your timing technical indicators to get the
breakout signal to trade those stocks identify .

BOTH FUNDAMENTAL AND TECHNICAL ANALYSIS

This allows you to use both fundamental and technical analysis to pick some
great stocks that have the best chance of bouncing back strongly when the
correction and consolidation is over and emerging as winners from the trade
after a market crash.

HOW TO TRADE AFTER A STOCK MARKET CRASH – THE FLIGHT BACK TO QUALITY STOCKS

Trading the world’s stock markets is not the same as trading in bull markets.
There are times when the market needs to turn down after a prolonged period of
bullish movement. When it comes down after periods of exuberance, it can come
down with a lot of ferocity… it can fall quickly, almost like in a free fall,
which can cause sensations of falling. When the market crashes, many traders get
confused because they are unfamiliar with a crash or have just started trading.
So what should these traders do?

When the stock market crashes and burns, the first thing most experienced
traders do is seek refuge and safety. In the exuberance of a buoyant market,
traders and investors sacrifice quality for quick capital gains. They choose all
types of stocks and shares, even those that don’t meet strict selection criteria
to deliver fundamental value over the long term. As long as they look cheap,
lower quality stocks will be bought in hopes of further gains, which they do
during a bull market. But once the market has collapsed, it’s the fundamental
quality of the stock that’s important to support its falling price.

ONCE A STOCK MARKET CRASHES, THERE’S A FLIGHT BACK TO QUALITY STOCKS.

Experienced and savvy traders trade poor quality stocks for good quality stocks,
or blue chips. These established stocks have good earnings, produce good
dividends, and are the first to recover when the market stabilizes after a
crash.

There is a bathtub faucet analogy. Just as water is drained into a bathtub, when
you take a bath and water is added to the tub, the dirt and suds rise to the
top, with better water quality in the lower areas of the bathtub. So during a
bullish market , the stocks and lower quality stocks rise first, while the blue
chips are the last to rise in price. But once the plug is removed, it’s the
better quality water that flows out from the bottom, with the suds and dirt in
the upper areas draining out last.

DURING A CRASH

Similarly, during a crash, just like the water gushing out of a bathtub when the
plug is unplugged, the savvy traders and the smart money quietly sell the better
quality stocks sooner, leaving the uninformed traders behind when they turn on
Holding on to lower quality stocks as the market collapses.

It is those experienced traders who sold better quality stocks earlier, before
the full aftermath of the crash is seen and felt, who are now in the best
position to re-enter better quality stocks during a crash and at lower prices.

Choose quality during and after a market crash and you Börsencrash 2022 will be
well rewarded many months later. Apply trading techniques that are proven to
help you trade during a down market and you will do well.
