The family of a Clayton County woman who was mauled by pit bulls is still trying
to reconcile with the long road she faces to recover.
“It’s devastating,” the victim’s sister said to Channel 2′s Candace McCowan.

A Clayton County woman found herself alone in Rex Park when she came
face-to-face with two pit bulls.
“They attacked her when she stood still, they attacked her when she tried to run
and eventually knocked her down,” her sister said.
The victim’s sister did not want to show her face to protect her privacy but
said the canines were out for blood.
“They were going for her neck. That’s why most of her injuries are with her arms
and her fingers of that nature because she fought with all her might,” she said.

The victim was running out of energy to fight and scream when thankfully a good
Samaritan appeared with a stick, fighting the dogs off.
More than a week later, she remains in an Atlanta area hospital where she’s
expected to be for weeks.
With severe injuries to both of her arms and legs, she’s going to need
reconstructive surgery, her sister said.
Channel 2 called Clayton County police who say they have tracked down the two
dogs and they’ve cited the owner.

The victim is facing a long road to recovery with multiple surgeries in her
future. However, she is sharing her story so others can defend themselves.
“If you are walking alone, make sure you have some method of protection, or
really try not to walk alone,” the victim’s sister said.
