Magnets can be used to drive equipment like motors, pumps and mixers without any
physical contact – using only a magnetic field. This allows manufacturers
incredible flexibility when producing equipment for medical, laboratory or
electronics where cleanliness and sterility are of paramount importance. These
applications can be more complex than they at first appear, and care must be
taken to be sure that the magnets, metal or plastic housings, magnetic field
patterns, etc. all interact properly to provide a reliable magnetic bond between
