WHO ARE WE ?


ESTABLISHED IN 1997

The Zen Buddhist Order of Hsu Yun (ZBOHY) was founded in 1997 by Grandmaster Jy
Din Shakya of Hsu Yun Temple. In 1998 he officiated in an ordination ceremony in
China inaugurating Chuan Zhi Shakya as Abbot of ZBOHY. Chuan Zhi continues today

WHO IS HSU YUN?

Hsu Yun is the most famous Chan master of the 20th Century, celebrated for his
relentless efforts to resurrect Chan in monasteries throughout China, and to
offer it directly to anyone who wanted to learn about it, Buddhist clergy and
laity alike, as well as to non-Buddhists. Hsu Yun believed that anyone can "do"

JY DIN SHAKYA

One of Master Hsu Yun's Dharma heirs, Jy Din was instructed by him to take Chan
Buddhism to the west. In 1956 he arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii, and in 1959 he
established Hsu Yun Temple, named by him in honor of his master, Hsu Yun. In
1997 he created the internet resource, ZBOHY, to help further his mission. Read

with any of these groups.


THE ZBOHY MISSION

ZBOHY has grown to include many solo practitioners, as well as sanghas and
practice centers throughout the world. Our mission: to make the study and
practice of Chan Buddhism accessible to Westerners using terms and concepts that
are readily understood within the context of our native societies and cultures,
and to provide an open online resource center for the study and promotion of
