For the next 10 days, the film festival voted the nation’s best by USA Today readers will hold screenings and other events at the Hammer Theatre Center operated by SJSU, as well as other venues just off campus. Enjoyed the opportunity to kick off the festivities by speaking about the role of AI in creative fields, including filmmaking, and am looking forward to attending more events in the days ahead. Hope to see you there – for schedule and additional info, check out the link in bio. #cinequest @cinequestorg @hammertheatrecenter * SJSU 10d Moon over @sjsulibrary ✨ #sjsu #spartanlife 📸 Photo copyright ©️2024 Robert C. While I am humbled by the recognition, the award is the result of a strong partnership between SJSU and our local leaders. Mayor Matt Mahan and City Councilmember (and SJSU alum) Omar Torres are only two of the many officials who have helped foster the town-gown relationship that has been invaluable to the revitalization already underway downtown. I’ve also been supported by an exceptional team at SJSU, which works every day to make our campus the epicenter of the future. Go Spartans! @mattmahansj @omartorresd3 @cityofsanjose * SJSUPREZMATSON 3d Regardless of what they’re studying at SJSU, everyone on our campus is an honorary political science major today. That’s because our event center has been transformed into a vote center for #supertuesday, giving our students, faculty, staff and neighbors the opportunity to cast a ballot without having to leave campus. Like most sites in Santa Clara County, the vote center on our campus is open until 8 this evening, and is even available to eligible voters who aren’t locally registered. . A big thanks to the @sjsuvotes team, which works all year to keep our campus engaged and informed about the electoral process. To learn more about SJSU Votes, check out the link in bio. * PreviousNext SJSUPREZMATSON 15d An investiture is a centuries-old academic tradition, marking the arrival of a president (within their first 18 months) and start of a new chapter for their university. This week’s investiture events have touched so many elements of our campus, including culture, arts, history, science and community. But most importantly, they have celebrated the people who have defined SJSU’s legacy and positioned us as the epicenter of the future. . My heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped make this week possible. I am honored to be a part of this university and can’t wait to see what we will accomplish together. * SJSUPREZMATSON 24d It’s Galentine’s Day in the president’s office! A big thanks to cabinet members (from left) Jennifer Malutta, Judy Nagai, Mari Fuentes-Martin and Kristin Dukes, and to all of the amazing women who lead our university, care for our students and put us all in a position to succeed and thrive together. #galentinesday #iykyk * PreviousNext SJSUPREZMATSON 3d It’s always a pleasure to learn from and with my colleagues! Doing our work at @aceducation with my colleagues from @thecsu Tomas Morales and @ucmerced Juan Munoz, @drketa, Tuajuanda Jordan @stmarysmd , Felix Matos Rodriguez @cunyedu, Havidan Rodriguez @ualbany * SJSUPREZMATSON 21d We asked, and you listened! My deepest thanks to those who took part in our Day of Giving event earlier this week. Not only was it a success, it was record-breaking! Because of your generosity, SJSU received more than $1.8 million, which more than doubled the previous record for most money given to any CSU campus for a one-day fundraiser. . Your gifts will improve the lives of our students, alumni and surrounding community, both on and off campus, and again, SJSU thanks you. For a recap of the Day of Giving, and to learn about how you can still take part, please visit the link in bio. * SJSUPREZMATSON 25d Thanks to it being a leap year, 2024 gives us an extra day to celebrate Black History Month. But no matter how many days are on the calendar, Black excellence is on display at SJSU every day, all year, every year. Celebrating our Black Spartans includes recognizing the history that Black and African American people have made on our campus, in our community and across our nation. It’s one reason why I am thankful that San José State had the privilege of hosting last month’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon, and why I and other university leaders are excited about implementing recommendations from the CSU’s recent Black Student Success Report. . I admire and appreciate groups like SJSU’s Black Leadership and Opportunity Center, San José ’s African American Community Service Agency, and all of those committed to preserving and promoting both the history and the future of Black and African Americans. Our campus is in the midst of recognizing Black History Month with a variety of events, most of which are open to the public - check out the list at the link in bio. @thebloc_sjsu @sj_aacsa @sjsudiversityoffice #blackhistorymonth * SJSU 4d Spartans, did you know that you can register to vote in the California March 5 election up until — and on — Election Day? #sjsu Associate Political Science Professor and Director of SJSU Votes Mary Currin-Percival shares five tips to prepare you for March 5 on the SJSU NewsCenter blog at the link in bio. * PreviousNext SJSU 22d Join us beginning Feb. 19 for a full week of ceremonies and events to celebrate the Investiture of @sjsuprezmatson! It was a victory celebration! #spartanpride #womensupportingwomen * SJSUPREZMATSON 22d How long have I known former White House cabinet member Julián Castro? Long enough to have a photo to share for #tbt! This photo is from the Cinco de Mayo Celebration at the White House by former President Obama. Former mayor of San Antonio and former HUD Secretary will be stopping by our campus this coming Monday evening as part of SJSU’s Spartan Speaker Series. Hope you can join us either in person or via livestream -- check out the link in bio for details. @juliancastrotx @sjsustudentaffairs @wowsjsu * PreviousNext SJSUPREZMATSON 29d Over the past few days, our school colors have unofficially gone from blue and gold, to red and yellow! Lunar New Year celebrations have been happening across campus all week, and I was delighted to get in on the fun by handing out red envelopes (filled with wishes for good health and prosperity) as students in our dining commons were treated to a traditional lion dance.
