As TMJ patients search for alternative treatments to manage their pain, a doctor
may have suggested the possibility of trying Botox injections directly into the
chewing (masseter and temporalis) muscles to relax these muscles. In addition to
its well-publicized cosmetic uses, Botox has been approved by the FDA for
painful conditions potentially related to TMJ, such as cervical dystonia and
migraine.  When injected into facial muscles afflicted with soreness and
discomfort, BOTOX® relieves TMJ and jaw tension for many patients. The
injections often eliminate headaches resulting from teeth grinding, and, in
cases of severe stress, BOTOX® can even minimize lock jaw. Although BOTOX®
treatment for these conditions is presently in its early stages; evidence
indicates that it can be extremely effective.

BOTOX AND FILLER ADMINISTRATION GUIDELINES – RCDSO REGULATIONS

“Members who wish to use botulinum toxin and dermal fillers may do so, but only
for procedures that are within the scope of practice of dentistry. Members may
inject botulinum toxin and/or dermal fillers intra-orally for either therapeutic
or cosmetic purposes, or botulinum toxin extra- orally for therapeutic purposes,
but in either case only if they are appropriately trained and competent to
perform the procedures. It is not within the scope of practice of dentistry and
members are not authorized in Ontario to inject botulinum toxin or dermal
fillers extra- orally for cosmetic purposes.”

Members who wish to use these substances as described are expected to
successfully complete a course of instruction that adheres closely to the
following criteria. The course should:

 * be conducted by persons who have had recognized education and training,
   preferably university-based, and significant experience in the parenteral
   administration of these substances;
 * include a didactic component with formal evaluation that addresses:
   * pharmacology of these substances;
   * physiological activity of these substances;
   * diagnosis of relevant conditions;
   * indications for the use of these substances, as well as other first-line
     treatment modalities;
   * contraindications for the use of these substances;
   * related head and neck anatomy;
   * adverse reactions and their management;
   * include a hands-on clinical or clinical simulation component with formal
     evaluation;
   * promote the critical evaluation of research and literature on related
     topics.


BOTOX AND FILLER TRAINING

BOTOX AND FILLER TRAINING MODULES are available individually or as a package.
Registrants will be provided with an access code to view pre-recorded live
theoretical lectures in a high-definition webinar format. This gives
practitioners the flexibility to acquire the theoretical knowledge on their own
time and to learn it at their own pace. A course manual will be provided in a
downloadable PDF format, so that the lecture segments can be easily followed
along with the slides and written notes. Injectors are encouraged to make their
notes and collect any questions that may arise. These will be answered during
the hands-on session with Dr. Sky prior to patients being injected. Once all the
theory has been completed online, injectors can book the ONE-ON-ONE hands-on
training session with Dr. Sky Naslenas to complete this comprehensive course and
obtain the certification, along with 10 CE credits (level III). The
hands-training component is offered in two formats: a group session with max of
6 injectors, or a private session, with one-on-one environment.

 * Botox Training Individual Injectors $2,495 + HST
 * Filler Training Individual Injectors $1,850 + HST
 * Botox and Filler Training Individual Injectors $3,795 + HST

 


DOCTOR AND TEAM TRAINING

TEAM TRAINING MODULE has been added to accommodate practices where a doctor
would like to acquire the training himself and would like the team at his/her
clinic to acquire the knowledge about injectables to deliver consistent
information to the patients. This module allows various team members to
recognize their specific roles within the practice, and to determine how to best
support the doctor in these novel procedures. Office managers, receptionists,
hygienists and assistants can all be involved in educating patients about
injectables be it for Orofacial pain management, grinding and clenching habits,
or cosmetic enhancement of a smile. The doctor will be provided with an access
code to share with up to five team members. Upon course completion, the injector
will be certified to perform these procedures in the office, and the entire team
will receive 10 CE credits (level III).

   $5,850 + HST

 


REFRESHER MODULE

REFRESHER MODULE was added for those practitioners who would like to have
additional training in specific areas. Some injectors who have taken the course
in the previous years may not have had time to implement their skills and would
like a reminder and clarification on these skills. Doctors may also use this
time to discuss managerial strategies of implementing Botox and fillers into
their practices. This module is designed to cater to the doctor’s needs and
allows for a one-on-one session with Dr. Sky Naslenas.
