Molly-Jane Gain’s immensely personal debut EP, Watch the World End, harkens the
arrival of an impressive new breed of female singer-songwriter-warrior.  Mature
but refreshing, Gain’s music offers the soothing appeal of universal themes like
love and transition with an avant-garde twist.  Shaped by a tumultuous childhood
and precocious independence, Molly-Jane found refuge in the music that
surrounded her.  Heroes like Dave Matthews are referenced in her open and
progressive style.  Although Gain once struggled with a fear of the stage,
emergent confidence seems to be the theme of this album. World-wise, yet
hopeful; sweet, yet powerful; tangible, yet transcendent—Gain’s songs
beautifully capture both the triumph and the pain of growth.  Molly’s voice is
haunting and hypnotic, and when paired with the rich, dark tones of her acoustic
guitar, it creates a stirring emotional undercurrent which drives her music’s
captivating dynamics. Tracks like the introspective “Blackstone” and nostalgic
“Last Night’s Cigarettes” evoke thoughtful reflection.  Others, like soulful
“Reservoir Run,” conjure the passion of first love.  Intelligent, artful, and
sincere, Molly-Jane Gain has made a brilliant and graceful entrance onto the
scene with Watch the World End.
