Over 6 years, $775,000 has been awarded to 367 teachers. Priority consideration is given to schools that support students from low-income communities and demographics underrepresented in STEM fields. Teachers can apply for up to $5,000 in funding to purchase specialized equipment, to receive a kit valued at $1,000 of pre-selected equipment, or both. If selected, a teacher will receive either funds or a kit, not both. For the purposes of this grant, a research project is defined as an independent investigation by a student involving experimentation to answer a scientific question outside of regular classwork. Independent research projects are frequently entered into science fairs and other competitions. Applications must be submitted as final before midnight ET on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 to be considered. ELIGIBILITY * Teachers must be employed full-time by a high school or middle school in the United States and US territories. * Preference will be given to teachers at schools that are composed of at least 25% low-income students, or 25% of students that identify as an underrepresented race or ethnicity in STEM. This includes Native American or Alaska Native, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latinx, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander (Melanesian, Micronesian, or Polynesian). * A teacher can receive up to $5,000 in any combination of kits or funds every 3 years.
