AHVD

History, theory and build instructions detailing this option for a freestanding
portable vertical antenna for the 20-10m bands.

DX ENGINEERING SUPPORTS AHVD ANTENNA

June 14, 2018June 14, 2018

DX Engineering supports the build of the Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole
(AHVD) antenna with standard and two custom parts.

BERRYVILLE 2015

August 3, 2015August 2, 2015

The AHVD, Small Loop antenna and some of the usual tailgate “stuff” was made
ready for inspection at the Berryville hamfest.

KX4O 1B-BATTERY VA FIELD DAY 2015

July 4, 2021July 5, 2015

Despite a weak battery and few contacts, our 1B-Battery effort verifies a 40m
small-loop and packet-radio NTS messaging using quick deploy antennas.

AHVD – END CAPS COME IN BAG OF 20

May 23, 2018February 5, 2014

Please note the end caps in the KX4O-000049 drawing show quantity 3, but they
come in one bag of twenty. Don’t buy three bags.

AHVD AT RICHMOND FROSTFEST

May 23, 2018January 27, 2014

The Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole was on hand at the Richmond Frostfest
where the most popular question concerned the bandwidth of the antenna.

Categories Miscellaneous Tags AHVD, Frostfest, vertical dipole

AHVD WINTER WONDERLAND

May 23, 2018December 10, 2013

The Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole (AHVD) worked quite well for some 10m
contacts even with a load of ice on the elements.

HF AHVD ON 6M – PRACTICAL?

May 28, 2016October 17, 2013

Will the KX4O version of the 20-10m Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole work on
6m? Yes, sort of.

THIS BALUN CHOKES

January 1, 2021September 27, 2013

Jim (K9YC) Brown’s toroid winding recipes provide a superb RF choke balun for
30-10m using RG316 and a #43 toroid.

HATTERAS HAM SHACK

May 23, 2018July 24, 2013

I took the asymmetrical hatted vertical dipole to Hatteras beach to activate
NA-067. I wasn’t very successful, but made a couple QSOs. Despite mixed results,
the setting was spectacular. The vertical dipole worked.

VERTICAL DIPOLE AT LIGHTHOUSE

May 23, 2018July 23, 2013

The asymmetrical hatted vertical dipole (AHVD) provides a quick setup HF antenna
at Hatteras lighthouse.

BUILD THIS VERTICAL PORTABLE HF ANTENNA

June 14, 2018July 19, 2013

The Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole (AHVD) prototype is an easy to build,
portable alternative to other freestanding vertical HF antennas such as the
Buddipole.
