Windows 11 has just been released, and chances are some of them are already
running Microsoft’s latest operating system. But why is this unexpected Windows
so important? We show everything important.

Microsoft has promised that Windows 10 will be the latest version. What happened
then now? Surely many have raised this issue when the first news of the arrival
of Windows 11 came out. The phrase referring to that particular latest version
was indeed uttered back in 2015, but not out of the mouth of Satya Nadella, the
head of the company (as many think), but one of Windows employees Jerry Nixon
said so. Isn’t it weird that we’re writing about installing and using Windows 11
right now?

Not so much: over the past six years, computing on the one hand and Windows on
the other have changed a lot. If you think about it, the twice-yearly “service
pack” for Windows 10 can be thought of as a newer version of Windows, or if you
prefer, it can be seen as a newer version of Windows 10, now numbered 21H2.

The difference is that there are more new features in the Start menu than a few
new ones: the hardware requirement is more serious, new features have been
added, and the user interface is also changing.

STRICT CONDITIONS

There are two ways to get Windows 11 to your computer: either it appears in the
Engine Companion, in Windows Update, or you can start your installer manually
from external media (a USB key or DVD). Both procedures may be familiar from
Windows 10, but while it was available on virtually every computer running
Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 when it arrived, Windows 11 is not as friendly; you won’t
even be able to put it on a PC that’s a few years old, which is extremely fast.





While at first glance the hardware requirements don’t seem rough, the devil, as
always, is in the details. According to Microsoft, these specific requirements
are as follows:

 * CPU: 1 GHz or faster, at least dual-core, compatible 64-bit (system)
   processor
 * RAM: 4 GB
 * Storage space: A storage device with a capacity of at least 64 GB
 * System firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot
 * TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0.
 * Graphics card: DirectX 12-compatible or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
 * Display: at least 9 “diagonal, 8-bit high-resolution (720p) display per color
   channel

This is a tricky list because we can find interesting in almost every line. For
example, the “compatible” flag in the first line is that Windows 11 doesn’t even
list relatively new, fast CPUs. This includes all seventh or older generation
Intel Core processors and the Ryzen 1xxx series. So even if you work with a
still fast Core i7-7700K or Ryzen 7 1700X, the Windows installer won’t work with
it. The other inconvenience is caused by TPM 2.0: TPM stands for Trusted
Platform Module, and although it has become almost mandatory for notebooks in
recent years, it is hardly encountered on desktops. If you do not have such a
module on your computer, Windows 11 will not be officially installed on it.

There’s an unofficial workaround, of course, but it only works when
reinstalling, not with Windows Update: The latest version of Rufus is 3.16
allows you to create a Windows 11 installation disc that works without TPM 2.0.
However, you should be aware that Microsoft claims that updates from Windows
Update will not be installed later – this is a big security concern, and you
shouldn’t risk it on a live, live computer.

The first part of the operation is done with a design that has been familiar for
a long time, then the image changes and you find yourself in the cleaner,
larger-element interface of Windows 11. Unfortunately, there are points where
Microsoft has tightened further, so you can no longer install the Home version
without an official network connection and a Microsoft account. Unofficially,
however, there is a workaround: when the process reaches the point where you
need the Internet, press Shift + F10. The command prompt appears, type taskkill
/ F / IM oobenetworkconnectionflow.exe and press Enter. You can then return to
the installer and continue.






MORE MODERN BUT ALSO BETTER?

As soon as Windows 11 starts, the biggest novelty will be eye-catching: the
Start button and the Start menu are in the middle of the taskbar. This solution
for Chrome OS is almost certain to annoy most users, especially those accustomed
to making it easy to find the Start button with the mouse by dragging it left
and right enough. Fortunately, the restore is just a few clicks away: with the
usual Win + I buttons, you can launch the redesigned Machine House, including
Personalization. In Taskbar Operation, next to Taskbar Alignment, you can change
the default center setting to the left.

The other important change in the Start menu is that there are no more tiles,
instead you will first see a list of the most used applications, from which you
can use the All applications button to go to the “normal” menu. We liked this
layout, it speeds up the use of the machine, especially if you run only five or
six programs most of the time. In any case, if you want to change the list of
scheduled applications, you can right-click or remove an item from the list by
right-clicking on the icon in the list, and you can pin it in the same way by
clicking on the normal Start menu.

The design is now much more reminiscent of mobile devices, with fewer submenus
(for example, Windows Update has also become a separate menu item), and the main
structure has become much more prominent on the left.





Windows Explorer hasn’t changed much lately, but now in Windows 11 it has been
simplified: in addition to being all “airy”, the menu bar above is much busier
and always only contains the most frequently used items related to the item you
just selected. functions are available on it. You can access the other extras by
pressing the three dots on the right, using a method familiar from mobile
phones. The context menu available with the right mouse button has undergone a
similar change anyway. Let’s be honest, it’s been a while since this menu in
Windows 10 (also) tended to be overgrown. In any case, now when you click on
something, only the most important commands really appear in the first round,
you can open the full menu with Show More Options (Shift + F10).


MORE EXTRAS

Of course, Windows 11 is not just about a cleaner interface, there are other
changes. These include the expanded window layout option, Snap. Instead of
dragging the window to the edge of the screen with the mouse pointer (although
it works), hover over the button to enlarge the window. After a short wait, the
positioning options appear, which you can click to send the window to the right
place. What’s even more interesting here is that you will be able to manage the
windows that are assigned to this group, so you can call them up at the same
time, for example. You can influence these functions in the Enclosure / System /
Multiple Applications / Docking windows menu.

The News and Interests are on the right side of the Windows 10 taskbar. This is
now gone, and the Widgets option has appeared next to the Start button, allowing
you to open a similar window with news, weather, and stock information. Although
the word Widgets refers to Windows Vista, you can’t drag items from the window
to the desktop.





Although only a promise for the time being, a major change is coming to the
Windows Store: on the one hand, not only modern applications can be included,
but also virtually any Windows program. Microsoft said it also got faster (35
percent) and the search engine was improved. However, the really big promise is
that you will soon be able to access and run Android applications from here
under Windows 11. The offering will be provided by the Amazon Appstore, which
isn’t as big as Google’s own Play Store, but still contains 500,000 apps.

If you already have apps: Microsoft packs Teams by default for Windows 11, I
want to make this everyone’s favorite chat app. Luckily for this, you can even
use Skype, all you have to do is download it from the Microsoft Store.


BELOW THE SURFACE

In addition to the exterior, some more interesting changes have been made to the
background. For example, Linux Subsystem 2 (WSL2), which already supports
graphical interfaces, is not only available from the command line. Those who
will be using the new Windows on an ARM processor can enjoy ARM64EC, which will
speed up the running of x64 applications on the ARM platform. Gamers may find
DirectStorage interesting (later on Windows 10), a new I / O API that can take
advantage of the capabilities of modern NVME SSD drives and direct PCIe-PCIe
copying to dramatically speed up data movement in storage and VRAM, for example.
or between the GPU. AutoHDR is also good for gamers – it tries to offer an HDR
experience on the right HDR-capable monitor, even if the game doesn’t have HDR
anyway, of course by intelligently extending the existing colors and dynamic
range.






WAIT OR SWITCH?

So what do we suggest then? Switch to Windows 11 now, or wait any longer? Well,
if you can only install the new OS on your machine using one of the TPM
workarounds, stay tuned to Windows 10 – if you really don’t get security
updates, it’s a serious threat to the future. If there are no compatibility
issues, you can install the new system, but it’s even better not to rush the
switch. It is not advisable to install a new OS on a PC used for live (important
work) immediately after its release, as minor operational problems may occur in
the early days, but after a month or two of waiting, we would definitely
upgrade.
