Empezar OUR HISTORY La Gamba Dorada it dates back to 1975, when two humble and entrepreneur families from a small village of Axarquía (Almarchar), settle down in Vélez-Málaga and started our restaurant history. Some of years of effort and working later, the two families decided to split from each other, staying as sole owners of the business, the marriage of Antonio Romero Gálvez and Ana Padilla Lucena whom, together with their children, run the family business. In 1993, after a severe illness, Antonio Romero Gálvez died, moment when his wife take in charge of the business, along with her children for two hard years. Antonio Miguel Romero Padilla, son of the owners, take care of the business since then to the present. Later, in 1998, the business is completely reformed, managing to reach a greater number of clients by modernizing the place. In 2011 La Gamba Dorada was burnt, because of that the place was to be reformed again. In that moment the original place was joined to another one, enlarging the kitchen and opening our take away store, where with the same kitchen and quality they offered a new service to the customers, the possibility to take home homemade food and fried fish. Since 2011 to the present, our business enlarged two times with new rooms, located on the same street, giving place to the restaurant we know actually. In conclusion, we are deeply indebted to our customers, who have continuing choosing us day by day, to the great family that we form with our waiters and cooks team and with all the family and friend who have supported us through thick and thin. An absolute must for fish lovers!! Michell Pérez 3 months ago We had never been to this restaurant and decided to try it out. When we sat down on the terrace we noticed another... restaurant across the street. Our waiter came 15 seconds after we sat down and asked for our drink order. I asked him about the restaurant across the street since it was obviously affiliated. His sarcastic response was, 'they offer what we don't!". We were a bit taken a back. We were given a menu (a paper placemat) that was quite large. The whole "'look and vibe"' of the restaurant was trying to imitate an American restaurant chain. We ordered a bottle of wine while trying to decide what to order. We could hear another waiter speaking with the table behind us asking them what 'tapa' they wanted with their drink order. When our waiter came to get our food order I asked about the complimentary tapa. He mentioned that because we were sitting outside, we were not entitled to any complimentary tapas. If we wanted one, he had to grab our bottle of wine and sit inside. Strike 2. We decided against going inside and order. We ordered 3 items. One they did not have. About 2 minutes later we received one item, wow quick, great! After finishing our plate we waited, and waited and waited. About 15 minutes later I asked someone to look into our order. Our waiter returned and told us that they didn't have what we ordered (which was paella...strange??) Strike 3. At that point we were very unhappy and obviously hungry. We wanted to leave, but of course we couldn't leave the rest of the bottle of wine. I asked the waiter to tell us what they did have on the menu that we could order.. He suggested the grilled fish platter. At that point we would have eaten anything. When it arrived, it didn't look too appetizing. The fish was basically thrown on the platter, the grilled squid still had the cuttlebone and beak. I can guarantee that the average person would not know how to remove these! It was gross! While we were waitng for our bill we couldn't help ourselves but circle the english spelling mistakes on their menu... 19 to be exact!read more Rosemary Droxler 11 months ago Fabulous tapas.
