WHAT IS CODIDACT?

Ever had a question? Ever had an answer? Ever had knowledge to share? We believe
that coming together to inquire and learn, to share knowledge and to teach each
other, makes the world a better place. We also believe that Q&A communities
should be free from the politics and shenanigans of private, profit-focused
companies.

COMMUNITY FIRST

We're building an open-source platform for community-driven Q&A sites. We
welcome beginners and experts alike, and aim to empower communities of learners
and teachers. We're funded by seeking donations, not by paywalls, and work with
individual communities that want to join us.

THE CODIDACT FOUNDATION

Our non-profit organization, The Codidact Foundation, is made up of people
directly from our communities, located in countries all over the world. We're
incorporated in the United Kingdom as a Community Interest Company (CIC), with
plans to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in the future. The
organization exists in order to provide a central focal point for processing
costs and donations, including opening and maintaining a bank account. You can
read more at our initial announcement, or view our Leadership page to learn
more.

DONORS

The Codidact Foundation is supported by generous donors. Thank you for
supporting this project!

Ultimately, we are all looking for answers to life's big β€” and little β€”
questions. We're building an amazing platform that makes it easier to ask
questions and curate answers in a non-hostile environment, so you can get to the
answers you need, without the fuss.

Whether it’s a question about Python or pythons, we want Codidact to have you
covered.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY DO WE NEED CODIDACT WHEN STACK EXCHANGE EXISTS?

Codidact aims to create a Questions & Answers platform that is more than just
Q&A: We're here to serve the needs of the community. We differ from Stack
Exchange in several core ways, of which perhaps the most significant is that
Stack Exchange is a for-profit company while Codidact is currently run by
volunteers and incorporated as a UK Community Interest Company (CIC). This means
that instead of focusing on profit, we can focus entirely on the needs of our
communities. You can read more in The Codidact Vision.

WHAT COMMUNITIES CURRENTLY EXIST ON CODIDACT?

You can see a full list of communities on https://codidact.com.

WHERE IS THE SOURCE CODE FOR CODIDACT?

All of the source code for the project can be found in repositories by the
Codidact organization on GitHub. The main code for the Q&A sites can be found in
the QPixel repository.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

If you'd like to get involved in our communities, such as asking questions or
posting answers, that's great! Feel free to hop right in to any of the sites
listed at https://codidact.com. If you'd like to help contribute to the code,
you're welcome to look around GitHub to find something you'd like to do. You can
also hop into our main Codidact development Discord server.

I HAVE A QUESTION THAT'S NOT ANSWERED HERE. HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?

If there's something you're still wondering about, you may be able to find an
answer in an existing post on our Meta site. If not, you can ask a new question
on Meta, or join us on Discord, either in the development server (where we
discuss the Codidact project itself) or the Communities server (where members of
our communities hang out and chat).
