CAROL AEBERSOLD and BILL PARMAN Menu * Home * The Wedding * Hotel Reservations * Travel Tips * History of The Georgian Terrace Hotel More WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMPANY AT OUR UPCOMING WEDDING April 20, 2024 OUR STORY From Friend to Bridesmaid to Bride in 58 Years Carol: For forty-two years I had been happily married to Bob Aebersold. My childhood best friend, Carolyn and her husband Bill attended our wedding, and through the years we remained close friends. Our children even played together. Almost ten years ago Bob suddenly passed away. Although I carried on laughing, smiling attending church, etc. a void was left in my heart. Loneliness and I became well acquainted. On July 25, 2023, I poured out my feelings to God in my prayer journal: Lord, please put a growing Christian man who will love me and my family into my life. Two days later I received a surprise text from Bill Parman while he was resting on an Iowa hilltop during a bicycle ride across Iowa. I was totally caught off guard and wondered what in the world was going on? The texts continued, and then came long phone calls I eventually shared with Bill my journal entry and plea to God. Bill’s reply was, “I want to be that man.” We decided we should meet since we hadn’t seen each other in twenty years. Our reunion was electrifying, and as we prayed together God made it clear that Bill was His answer to my prayer. Three months later we became engaged, and our wedding is April 20. We look forward to serving Him together in whatever time we have. Bill: I was first introduced to Carol during the summer of 1966, while I was visiting my, then, girlfriend, Carolyn, who lived in, Indiana. Carol was Carolyn’s best friend from childhood. In the summer of 1968 after Carolyn and I graduated from Taylor University, we were married, and Carol was a bridesmaid in our wedding. Over the next 55 years, I came to know Carol vicariously through stories told me by Carolyn and occasionally by face-to-face meetings. In June of 2022, I lost Carolyn to metastatic breast cancer, and the thought of remarriage never entered my mind, but as time passed I realized I did not like living alone. I squared my shoulders and resigned myself to live as a single male, but in July of 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I joined three friends in July 2023, to ride in a bicycle tour across Iowa. For a few weeks prior to the ride, it had been on my mind to send a casual text to Carol to see how she was doing and to let her know that I was getting along fine; however I had not sent the text. One day during the ride I was climbing a long Iowa hill. The only thing on my mind was getting to the top. Thoughts of Carol were nowhere in my conscience. At the top of the hill I stopped to take a picture of the Iowa landscape. After I took the picture Carol came to my mind. It was as if a voice said, “Remember that text you were going to send to Carol? Now is the time.” So, I quickly typed a text, attached the picture and sent it her. Upon my return home from Iowa, I sent Carol a text that I was safely home but had come down with a bad cold. Carol continued to check on me by text and phone calls (I have come to know that is part of her nature). This led to more text messages and phone calls. After texting each other for two or three weeks, Carol shared a surprising text with me. She wrote to me saying that two days before I had sent her the text from the Iowa hilltop, she had made an entry into her journal, asking God to send her a growing Christian man who would love her and her family. We both felt that God’s providence was working in our lives, thus, our serious relationship began. I responded to her text with, “I want to be that man.” Jennifer Postorino We use cookies and similar technologies, including those provided by third parties, to view and retain your interactions on the site and for other purposes.
